Introductory Press Conference (Full)
Weaver and Casey introduced the four draftees yesterday. Everyone was present (zoom) and spoke. One thing that became apparent listening to Weaver & Casey, is that rebuilding the culture was their focus over the last week, both in the draft and with the primary acquisitions of Plumlee & Grant. Lazarus Jackson surmised this in an article a couple days ago, https://www.detroitbadboys.com/2020/11/24/21591297/athleticism-over-assets-detroits-restoration-is-different-jerami-grant-killian-hayes-sekou-doumbouya, and he was right on. The RJ/Drummond era is over.

I’m drinking the kool aid. A lot of negative stuff been said about Weaver. But he sounds like he knows exactly what he is doing. Was impressed with Casey too.

Anyone can put on a good press conference.

Ok Troy 3 years from now we need to see:
Rebound% - Wood vs Stewart
3pt% - Wood vs Stewart
Whose the bigger Unicorn?
Rebound% - Wood vs Stewart
3pt% - Wood vs Stewart
Whose the bigger Unicorn?
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Re: Introductory Press Conference (Full)
I guess others were just a lot more in love with Christian Wood than I was.
Solid player, but unicorn implies a rare player that can change the game. If wood really was a "unicorn" then he'd have been sitting on max offers- the term is being misapplied.
I likely would have preferred keeping him at the price he went for, but I don't know how much higher I would have gone- likely not much.

He never got a full season of consistent minutes to totally prove it. I mean a guy that can play 4/5 athletic af and can still bang down low with true Cs, potential to guard the perimeter, and has some perimeter skills like 3pt shot and a dribble drive game. He definitely has the traits to become a 'unicorn'.

Re: Introductory Press Conference (Full)
This seemed to be a good place to post this, as this draft officially kicked off a new era for the Pistons under Weaver.
The Bad Boys, ladies and gentlemen. Gotta love ‘em:

With social media and AAU, it’s a very different era of basketball. Rivalries just aren’t what they used to be, as these guys often train and vacation together in the offseason, and share the same agents. While we’ll never have the Bad Boys again, I really hope that Weaver is successful in building a roster of really tough, competitive, accountable players who learn what camaraderie is about from the successful Pistons teams of the past.

Almost anybody. Mo Cheeks’ pressers were a disaster.

Also, good article by Lazarus Jackson. Enjoyed it. Let’s hope Weaver is truly a mad scientist.

Yeah, ok. I’m hyped now. Might be unjustified, but i don’t care. I want to believe, so I will.

48 minute clip isn't all that great, nothing unusual in it tbh
The whole "hard working, high character, high bball IQ, competitive nature" stuff was rammed home throughout.
Pretty clear that's the organisation we're going to be or become now Gores has given up the playoff mandate.
One dude did ask about Wood & Weaver just said they'd address that later today and the presser was about the 4 rookies.
Only thing that seemed a little different to me was how much shine Stewart got compared to Hayes & Bey.
Maybe I wasn't paying full attention at all times? Anyone else watch it and got the vibe that Stewart was a much bigger "topic" than Hayes?

Re: Introductory Press Conference (Full)
Anyone else see that Emoni Bates might be reclassifying for 2021 draft? How’s that possible? It’s legit. Look it up. He’s mulling it. Said he’s going to play out this season and make a decision at the end..

Wood does have the potential to be a very goid player moving forward. The only thing that really holds him back will probably be that he doesn't create his own offense but he's still a stud.

it's a solid approach, imo. it definitely raises the floor of a team so you're always within striking distance if you catch lighting in a bottle.
it's worked well for the raps and a reason so many of their late picks/undrafted guys have been positive contributors. they've also drafted a lot of guys that were older and capitalized on their maturity while other team prioritized youth and "potential". the last draft pick they took that was a freshman was bruno caboclo in 2014 who played overseas but was freshman-aged.
casey was with the raps when they were building the team with those ideals so i'm not surprised he's on board with us doing this.

- Stewart has a bigger personality and is a better interview so media people are going to instinctively target him with more questions to get better soundbites
- stewart was actually rated number 2 in his class just last year and has said he beats every other big in his class, and there was stuff he couldn't show in college, so he has developed a buzz of expectancy around himself
- Weaver himself said he had secret info on him that suggests he is way better than where he was ranked coming into the draft. Casey also expressed the exact same sentiments
- Weaver gave up a breakout stretch unicorn big man and drafted Stewart... that speaks very loud and clear that he thinks he doesn't need Wood (who had a breakout year with the Pistons) because Weaver thinks Stewart is going to be better/harder working/quicker feet than Wood. Thats the main reason Stewart is getting more attention.
So we'll see in 3 years if Weaver was right
