17 days until first preseason game. 24 to first regular season game.

2020 has sucked on a lot of fronts but this is pretty great news.

What's with the super-high dribble on a couple of the later highlights? (One pass, one shot.) It looked like the ball was bouncing over his head ... which, all height joke notwithstanding, is pretty high if you don't want the ball stolen or knocked away.

Danny said he didn't want more than two rookies on the roster. That implies the following...

Danny would rather have Semi than Vernon Carey.

Danny would rather stash a player who may never play in the NBA than take Paul Reed.

That makes as much sense as a $3 dollar bill.

This is my biggest "pet peeve" possibly since Danny Ainge became a GM for me.

This team is trying to compete right now. Vernon Carey would have NO shot at getting a rotation role on this team. So, it comes down to this:

1. Do we like Carey more than Tacko, our current developmental big?
2. Was Carey willing to sign a two-way deal?

If either of those was "no" then there's no way we could draft Carey.

Same goes for Paul Reed. I'd actually have been fine if we walked from Waters and signed Reed to our other 2-way deal, because I love him as an energy wing long-term and with Pritchard around we should presume that the team thinks more highly of him than Waters given where he was drafted. But there wasn't room for both.

Semi has a role on this team. You may not like him filling that role, but we weren't going to waste a roster spot on another developmental piece when we already have Romeo, Edwards, Tacko, Waters, Timelord, Grant, Nesmith and Pritchard in the fold. Add in Tatum and Brown and that is 10(!) guys under 25 on the roster, plus Smart and Semi at 26.

Simply put, we already have an incredibly young roster. Even Tristan Thompson is only 29 and Theis only 28. Kemba and Jeff Teague are going to be the only guys over 30 on the roster this year. Anyone complaining Ainge isn't putting enough developmental pieces on the roster is insane.

Now, you can quibble with whether the guys we have on the roster are the right pieces, and I honestly wouldn't disagree with a few like Edwards or Pritchard vs. who we could have filled those roles with this year (ie, Desmond Bane and Malachi Flynn), but we're splitting hairs here, and at some point I trust in Ainge. I have doubted plenty of other picks in the past like Tony Allen or Jaylen Brown that turned out great.

I’d be more positive if they had kept Desmond Bane to compete for that spot....just sayin.

I feel like Waters is the perfect PG for your G-League franchise. He does a bit of everything offensively. Looks like he passes well, but also has some flash out there to make occasionally ugly basketball more interesting. He'll probably end up being too small for the NBA, but seems like he'd be fun to watch in Maine. I'd buy a ticket (mainly for Tacko).

He had one game last year where he looked really good. Like NBA backup, 6th or 7th man someday really soon good. Can't remember against who but then he didn't get a lot more chances and didn't really show it again. I hope he can get a stretch to see what he can do.

That's one game more than Edwards. I would keep one or the other between Waters and Edwards, or release Green for Edwards. I would like Green's spot to go toward another vet wing.

Kemba - Teague - Pritchard - Edwards
Smart - Nesmith - Romeo
Jaylen - Semi - Green
Tatum - Grant
Theis - Thompson - R Will

Tacko and Waters on 2 ways

Rearrange the depth chart as you’d like but that’s the team. No proven back ups in the 2-4 spots means a lot of opportunity for Romeo, Nesmith and Grant. I’m excited but also nervous about this.

Roll with the kids until the trade deadline and then reevaluate.

Well I watched most all the games last year and haven't looked at any stats. A quick Eye test tells me Green is the best of the 3 right now. But he has the lowest ceiling. All 3 are end of the bench guys, so I'd go with highest potential from them. I think I saw one gme each out of Carson and Waters that made me think they might turn it on and be good. Green was always reliable in his small role. I like all 3. I think I'd cut Green first from the team if it were me. Based just on the very very small chance Carson or TW can catch fire and dramaticaly up their stock.

2020: Signed Tristan Thompson & Jeff Teague; signed Tatum to max contract extension; drafted Nesmith & Pritchard; lost Hayward

Why is this underwhelming?

I guess when you do Horford, Hayward/Kyrie/Tatum/, then do Kemba it does seem like a loss.

This year is fine.

Just comparing it to the rest of the offseasons...

2016 - signed Horford; was in the KD chase
2017 - signed Hayward; traded for Kyrie (didn't work out but it was an exciting time)
2018 - getting Hayward and Kyrie back from injury coming off ECF run
2019 - signed Kemba

Not much offseason ummph and hype. Which just means this is the year we finally win the title.

Yep. It's smooth sailing from here on out.

So the roster is pretty much set?

Walker/Teague/Pritchard
Smart/Langford/Edwards
Brown/Nesmith/Green
Tatum/Grant/Ojeleye
Theis/Thompson/Rob

With Langford and Walker out I assume Nesmith (if he looks ready) or Teague gets bumped to starting five and Ojeleye gets 2nd unit minutes. Edwards and Pritchard probably fight it out for some minutes too.
