Dude is getting paid 30M a year. I think he'll be alright if he sprains an ankle. Geez Louise.

We’re getting (x2) 2nd round picks, but we are also SENDING a 2nd round pick to Boston!!!

This is a deal that just keeps on giving.....

Bonnell said thats a 2nd that probably won't convey to Boston. Hes been right lately somehow.

If that is the case then why include a 2nd going to them from us at all?

It’s not like it’s needed in order to meet any league requirements like salaries marching - so instead it just projects terrible optics of our FO being waxed.

This has the stench of Meddling MJ all over it. If not, then Mitch is immediately on the hot seat.

The Hornets will never be a competitive team with MJ in the owner's box

We have to send something out legally. So a top 55 protected 2nd is used.

I have no clue. Probably top 55 protected or something

So the TPE we created for Boston is one of the biggest TPE’s in NBA history (at around $30mil).

At the same time, the $9mil per season is the largest average salary associated to the stretch provision since it was introduced.

I hope our FO gets a trophy for each of these records, or at least a nice plaque to hang on the wall.

Yeah, like I said yesterday there had to be something going back, and it's likely protected so that it never actually conveys.

Best evidence of this is that it's our 2022 pick, the only one we have that was originally ours. If we were really giving one up I'd imagine it'd be one of our multiple picks next year.

Those two picks also give us 2nds in years we previously traded ours away. Gotta update my sig!
Hornets Picks by Year
2021: Bouknight, Jones, Thor, Lewis

Protection on future 1st* (to NYK); 2nds
2022: 1-18; CHA (31-55), TOR 2 (55-60)
2023: 1-16; BOS (GH)
2024: 1-14; BOS (GH)
2025: 1-14; CHA (31-55)
*Becomes two 2nds if unconveyed

I was ready to blame everything on Mitch until I saw the story about MJ calling Hayward up personally to seal the deal...

With that TPE we gave Boston, there's about 0 chance those 2nds are before pick 50. Why help Boston at all if that's the best they give. I was hoping for a protected 1st...

The only reason Michael Jordan is a billionaire is because he is one of the best athletes of the last century and he also understood the power of branding.

He is an absolute moron when it comes to running an organization though, so adjust your expectations accordingly and be glad Charlotte has an NBA team at all. The Hornets will never be consistently successful with Jordan as the owner, I'd confidently bet my life savings on it.

So, we stretch Nic and Ainge gets his TPE? Why the heck did we get into a sign-and-trade at all?

I have never seen someone do an about face in his opinion like 316 is right now. Weren't you all on board this signing originally?

What were you expecting?

Zzzz keep instigating.

I said this play would be feast or famine. Higher chance of us tanking into higher draft picks now that we've left ourselves with 0 options.

The draft outside the top 3 is always a crapshoot. There's good players to be found. Just look at where we picked Devonte. This doom and gloom is something big markets do. We will win on grit. Hayward is one of the nicest guys in the league and will be a great mentor for this team.

lol you have no idea what you're talking about.... next year's class is amazing. and the one after that is going to be loaded with all of the guys who got screwed over with reclassing this year.

we're back in purgatory

But Hayward is damaged goods you said. And now we can't sign better players. So, we are actually looking great at top picks both years.

And, yes, I think Hayward is damaged goods. He won't be able to play 72 games this season. This is a 4d chess move by Mitch.

I'm not instigating, I'm genuinely trying to figure out your view

Did you want us to sign Hayward?

I am not really sure what is going on here. We decided to just waive Batum and screw our cap space each of next two summers, but somehow got 2 second rounders from Boston in the TPE deal.

What was OKC asking for? Because you would assume we were offering those two picks plus kicking in something ourselves.

Also, I was assuming we would front load Hayward deal now that we have cap this year, but I have seen it reported as 28.5 million so I have no idea why we would do that unless we have a plan for this 9 million that we have left.

The 9 million is also factoring in LaMelo money already so I figured we would try to use our MLE to sign our second rounders so that should not take away from our current cap space.

I would say seems like another move to follow, but right now the FO is really confusing me with not paying to move Batum.
