I'm sure the parameters for the salary were pre-arranged. It's probably what was promised to him if he refused to work out for, or provide medicals to other teams. Refusing to work out for teams is how everyone figures out guys have promises.

The dollar amount isn't bad. It's less than the slot for the 30th pick, but more than the rookie minimum.

I agree w/this. The only reason it's not a 4 Year Hinkie Special (like Shake got) is because there was a predetermined deal for this particular contract, in exchange for Joe and his agent steering him towards us.

Bolden got 4 years $7 million with 2 years/$3.3 guaranteed. And I’m pretty sure the minimum has gone up since then.

Joe got ~900k less guaranteed. Seems like a step behind the top 2nd rounders.

Yeah, but he's only under team control for 3 years. He can become an RFA after that. A good tradeoff for him if he believes in his ability. Not so good for the team to have to pay him 1 year early if he hits.

Yeah look at my post on the last page I’m saying they needed to give him more guaranteed if they wanted the 4th year.

Yeah, Isaiah Joe's agent did a great job for him. He was in a similar situation as Shake Milton, when he declared for the draft. They were boarder line 1st round picks, that were injured during the year. Shake worked out for teams coming off the injury and his stock fell. Joe's agent didn't let his client go through that and he got 2.6 million guaranteed, without having to do anything.

Shake got put on a 2-way and made less than 300k his rookie year. Shake's made less than 2 million total, going into his 3rd year, and he had to prove himself just to get that.

A lot of players in the previous year's draft had their agents tell teams they would not sign two ways, which was one of the reasons we allegedly took a much lower rated Shayok, because he was amenable to that. Joe could have gone a good bit earlier, but that is always a risk, so a promise served him and the Sixers well if it kept other teams away from choosing him.

I just read somewhere that the maximum contract length when using the tMLE is 3 years. So that would explain Joe's deal. We couldn't do a 4 year Hinkie Special even if we wanted to.

Wasn’t aware of that being a thing (we haven’t not had cap space in so long) but that would explain it. FWIW only a few guys have gotten 4 year deals so far. Terry and Xavier Tillman from what I’ve seen.

I've noticed that Isaiah Joe shoots his jumpers right handed. But on many of his highlights, where he actually goes to the basket, he dribbles, does layups, and even dunks left handed. Is he ambidextrous or something? The left handed dunk from a right handed player is not common.

if by the opposite of Simmons you mean because he might actually be ambidextrous and Simmons is certainly not

But Joe actually looks natural shooting right-hand and he looks natural dunking and laying the ball up left-handed. Simmons left-handed shot looks...

I think John Wall is the only player I can think of that looks natural dunking left-handed.

Paul Reed is the same regarding using his left hand for dunks, layups and hooks. Apparently his mom made him dribble and shoot left handed as a kid so that's why he's able to do it naturally.

Expecting this kid to have a future as a specialist. Plays within himself and moves well off the ball. If he's able to improve his ball handling and learn how to be an effective team defender he should see some longevity as a pro.

Given the new roster and shortened pre-season I'd expect our rotation players will play a good portion of the minutes. That said, really hoping we get to see guys like Joe, Reed, Maxey, and Diane get some decent run in our two exhibition contests.
