Why are LeBron and AD options? Don’t they cancel each other out like Steph and KD?

In a vacuum, Giannis is easy the best player in the league so he deserves it

Man James Harden is low. I get that the Rockets appear to be in shambles at the moment, but he's finished in the top three of NBA MVP voting in five of the past six seasons (tied with Malone and Duncan for 8th most all-time), and he's still in his prime. To have him 8th and Curry, coming back from an injury and leading a questionable Golden State Warriors line-up, 2nd is surprising to me.
I get that these odds are based on what people will vote, not on how likely these guys are to win the MVP- but still.

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
Giannis while the Bucks have the #1 record in the league once again.
They have as many reasons as last year to keep it full throttle and they have an increase in talent, in the regular season the leap from Jrue to Bledsoe isn't much but it is an increase in capability (playoffs it's massive since Bledsoe sucks there for whatever reason).
And its hard to think any player in the NBA will come close to the offensive and defensive contributions in the regular season that Antetokounmpo does.

The strongest narratives probably belong to Doncic and Durant - although obviously there are question marks over whether Durant will be the same guy post injury.
It isn't terribly hard to imagine the Mavericks on ~55 win pace or Durant taking the Nets to a top 2 seed and everyone remembering how great he is.

jokic @ +3000 is bonkers, at worst he is a top 6 or 7 player in the league on a team that can go deep in the postseason. Also just entering his athletic prime really.

One of them was voted as this boards’ expected best player in the league next year (and was 2nd in MVP voting last season), and the other was 5th. They are also both in the top 5 as MVP candidates by odds makers for next season. Even though they might steal some votes from each other, not having them as options would make this list a complete and utter joke..

LeBron and AD need all the help they can get while Steph and KD were simply too good and it would have been unfair to include them.

It’s based on betting and generating action. Steph Curry is that high because more people Will Bet on him. Jokic is lower because less money is bet upon him.

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
While he basically has zero chance to win based on the current media biases Damian Lillard definitely deserves a mention. If you take a look at what he accomplished last season:
30 ppg, 8 apg, 4.3 rpg, 62.7 TS%, 52.4% 2pt, 40.1 3pt%, 88.8 FT%, 11.6 WS, .225 WS/48
and think about how injury ridden and crappy his teammates were (21 different starting line-ups, Wenyen Gabriel and Antony Tolliver starting games)
and then envisioning how much more effective and efficient he could be with better teammates
it isn't that much of a stretch of the imagination for him to at least become a contender if the Blazers come out of the gate strong and become one of the top teams in the NBA.

No way Giannis gets it again after 2 failed playoff series in a row. Unless the Bucks win 70 games.
Luka gets it, then Zion the year after
You are probably right, but that is kind of BS. It is a regular season award. Giannis basically could repeat what he did last season - Best player on the best team with arguably the best stats. He should be a clear cut MVP favorite but won't get it. Like is there anything he could do this year that people will say "Giannis deserves it"

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
I don't think Giannis wins another until he shows he can perform in the playoffs. I know it's a regular season award but voters aren't going to consider him because of his past 2 playoff failures

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
Giannis won't win another because of voter fatigue and that Giannis has failed multiple times in the playoffs.

unless he gets Portland into a top 4-5 seed, he has no argument for MVP.

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
Harden would be interesting if traded to the Nets. If, and thats a big if, he gels with Durant and Irving he could get them the 1-3 seed in the East.
ETA: I wonder if the 72 game season/less travel will help LBJ or if he will still have too much rest?

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
If Trae Young puts up the same numbers as last year and Hawks are in the playoffs, he's definitely in the conversation. And, that's assuming zero improvement in his game which is highly unlikely.

Kevin Durant 16/1 to win looks good to me. If Brooklyn stays healthy I expect them be the frontrunners in the East.

Re: MVP Frontrunners?
MVP's are really about the best player its really about the best story or the best team.
Giannis wont win again, too tired of that. even if he deserved it. Westbrook did the triple double thing so thats lost its luster. Lebron is old news. thats not enough juice. Harden got his, if he stays in Houston he wont get it, maybe if he went elsewhere and won 60 games he would?
I'd say:
-Luka. Like Giannis he is on the way up and its a fresh new name. if the mavs can win 50-55 he will be a front runner
-Trae young. would take a leap, but if the hawks can win 50+ like luka he would be in there
-KD. a comeback story and with a new team. if the nets can nab a top 2 seed and he is back he could be a contender
-Curry, similar to KD but same team
-Tatum. see trae/luka

You know, old news or not, LeBron is going to win MVP if the Lakers end up with the best record.
