Dennis Schröder: Starting job prerequisite for trade with Lakers

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Mon Nov 30, 2020 8:17 pm

Have you guys heard about this? LakerFilmRoom tweeted out an interview Dennis did in Germany and apparently one of the prerequisites for trade was a promised starting roll. I don't know how I feel about this.

Prerequisite for signing?? Did we extend his current contract?

Ship his ass to a crappy team if starting is a priority for him.

He was traded, he didn't sign anything. He's a FA next summer.

Correct...I couldn't get the article to open so I didn't want to post it. I wonder if says he'd only agree to the trade if he was a starter. Clearly Lakers could still trade for him but you don't want anyone that doesn't want to be there.

I don't see a problem in having him start though. What is the issue here or are we just trying to start an issue?

Gotta earn it. I also think Matthews is a better fit with the starters.

I agree with Dennis. He should start. Matthews and Caruso off the bench. Schroder is a borderline all star and he wants to be a starter, and feels he deserves it. Why do people want him to come of the bench?

If at the end of training camp Vogel announces he's the starter I'd have no problem with it.

Personally I think he would be more effective off the bench. Or at least he can get the majority of his minutes with Bron or AD resting.

I think it's because he is best when he is ball dominant and with AD and LBJ it would be alot of mouths to feed. Off the bench with some one like Harrell he can run pick & roll and have AC play defense or dish to Kuz.

He was a good off ball shooter last year but I doubt he came to the Lakers to play Danny Green's role.

Also, is taking the ball out of LeBron's hands in the regular season a bad idea? He's coming off a long season as just about the only player who could create off the dribble, so maybe it would be wise to let him play more off-ball during the regular season? Might as well save LeBron for the playoffs (since this is the kind of team who can win without homecourt advantage), where he can dominate the ball as much as he needs to in games that matter.

I'm all for DS and Trez carrying the team during the regular season to get AD and bron some rest. The Dennis comment just came off weird to me.

I doubt we told him during the trade call, "You'll be the starter so relax..."

It was probably more like, "You'll have the opportunity to start, with us."

That said... Who beats him? LeBron?

No special agreements on a Championship Team... He should have to compete for his PT just like everyone else. If Caruso comes in with a lights out 3pter and the same level of D, I would expect him to be given the same shot at starting as Schroder...

One of either him or LeBron should be on the court at all times.

That being said if LeBron plays 34 mpg and Schroeder plays 32mpg like both did last season then that's 66 mpg combined. That gives 18 mpg extra over 48mpg of a regular game that they can share the court together. Maybe first 6 minutes at start of each half and final 6 minutes of game.

6 min: Schroeder, LeBron
4 min: Schroeder
8 min: LeBron
6 min: Schroeder

6 min: Schroeder, LeBron
4 min: Schroeder
8 min: LeBron
6 min: Schroeder, LeBron

He's a starting caliber PG that only came off the bench last year because CP3 was not being paid max dollars to ride on the bench, and CP3 was just better anyway. If he wants to start, I don't see the problem. We already have our sixth man in Harrell.

I suspect Harrell might start too
