Denzel at a QO of $4 million makes sense as salary filler in a trade.

I doubt he gets $4 million on the open market this year.

salary filler is irrelevant if you are signing a guy under the cap because you can absorb the incoming salary w/o having to match. they obviously expect him compete for minutes

ATL playing a very wise game here. Dunn was one of the few defenders who gave Trae trouble so they have them on the same team now.

that would make sense if dunn was a starter and the bulls and hawks were competing for east supremacy or something

Side note: boy am I glad Boylen devoted consistent minutes towards developing Sato, Dunn, Shaq, Kornet and Arci last season. Looks like the decision to bench Coby and have him play the JR Smith role for 50 games was a fantastic chess move.

Dunn was ultimately a massive disappointment.

People forget that he was a top 5 pick and one of the cornerstones of the Jimmy trade.

if they would have done a re-draft after his rookie year in minny, he would have dropped at least a few spots. even #5 picks are not expected to be long-term starters in the nba, so he obviously has not been a massive disappointment. and he's pretty much been what the bulls expected since acquiring him. hoped for more, obviously, but it's entirely unsurprising that they didn't get it

i think the bulls expected a lot more from dunn at the time of the trade. we supposedly loved him the year of the draft and i wouldn't be surprised if we valued him the most highly of any of the pieces we got back in the jimmy trade even after his stinky rookie year

we ARE under the cap. which means that it doesn't make sense to use cap space with the idea of trading it. we don't have to match salaries if under the cap. and the team receiving denzel would prefer not to take him but rather reduce their payroll (assuming he's worth less)

He skipped because he didn't want to risk any injury (new or aggravated) before going into contract negotiations, whether with the Bulls or another team.

You talking about old front office which expected more. Also one of reasons why their were fired in process. a lot of bad evaluations in prospects and talent along unable to build good roster and hire right people to make good team. If Dunn turned out to be star I would have hard imagining GarPax fired. This way he is just another mistake which AK needs to clean up and he did.
