I'm surprised MJ didn't give up a 1st or 2 to get Ainge to take on Batum so he didn't have to cut that check for 27 mill for Batum.

I have not followed the story closely, but my understanding from a Celtics fan was that Ind/Bos S&T was all worked out and Boston rejected it because they didn't want Turner.

Granted, no idea if what he said was true, he was annoyed and thought they should have taken the Indy offer. He could have just been reading rumors or whatever else though.

I mean those are all rumors. But it was clear 120>>>100 mill.

Kupchak since going over to the Hornets has been pretty solid. So it's not surprising he cut Batum nor failed to gave up 1sts.

He has been but Kupchak isn't cutting the check for 4/120 to GH and 27 mill to Batum in a year that they're losing most of their LT check and no fans. SO yes, I'm surprised MJ didn't pay a 1st to save that 27 mill.

No point in moving a pick to save money. The Hornets are not a FA destination and if they suddenly become one, they can use a S&T to land the next guy.

He was trying to trade up for a specific player more so than consolidating roster spots.

Right because he already has an army of young players.

He would have added a young player regardless of trading up or not. The point of trading up wasn't because he already has many young players, the point was that he wanted to add a specific one that he felt fit the roster.

Well they did get one of the top free agents of this offseason......

But regardless, as I said, it would be a cost saving move, not a cap move. The Hornets are not going to be rolling in the dough this year. They're a luxury tax recipient (that will be diminished), no fans in the stands and are a small market.

Well it's 3 young players vs one better caliber prospect.

I'd take him over Hutch

Given we preaching development and hiring development staff signing him makes sense for both sides. He needs development after losing a year due allergy. Just depends if AK thinks same or is high on him. We dont have roster spot to out right sign him. I would personally withdraw Q offer to Valentine and sign Zhaire.

Valentine already signed his qo, it's not possible to withdraw it. He could be waived though.

Wow, RHJ signed a camp deal in Minny. I woulda preferred him to Vonleh.

That's a little nutty. For all of his flaws, RHJ is an NBA player. Sure, an "energy/defensive small 4" who you wouldn't want starting, but still, an NBA player. But for the lack of a passable / volume 3, he's comparable to Kelly Oubre, but a little bigger.

It's a good signing by Minny, but there are more contention-level teams that could have used a guy like him. Miami to replace what Derrick Jones was bringing, behind Harkless. Denver to help fill the void left by Grant moving on. Houston for more depth behind PJ Tucker (though they did sign Gerald Green and rookie KJ Martin is a similar type of player).

Still, Minny is going to be an interesting team this season - a lot is going to depend on the coaching job that Saunders can do, along with health. The depth chart looks pretty good.

G: Rubio, (Russell)
G: Russell, Edwards, (Culver/Okogie)
W/G: Beasley, (Edwards), Culver/Okogie
F: Hernangomez, McDaniels, Layman, RHJ
C: KAT, Davis, Reid

That's a team that, while not a serious counter, I could imagine making some regular season waves by playing very fast and just outscoring people. Not to mention that if RHJ sticks and Culver develops, they'd have two versatile defenders to throw out there (and Rubio can defend, Ed Davis can defend, and Edwards *should be* able to defend, if he wants - ditto KAT and to a lesser extent Russell). But that roster has a ton of shooting, ball handling, spacing and just plain old scoring ability.

That includes presumably bringing Edwards off the bench (unless and until he can beat out Beasley, but I'm presuming that's year two - just because Beasley had a heck of a year last season).

TheFinishSniper wrote:Not sure what Celtics are doing with this decision to make Turner a player development coach. Not sure what goal is here. I still remember when Turner was drafted. He is not that old to still play. I guess thought of being paid being as coach instead player while still being around basketball is something he feels more comfortable because he certainly didnt have great work ethic for guy who on paper still loves sport. Personally I would dislike if Bulls actually hired someone like that to be player's development guy.

You want absolutely that kind of guy nowhere near your franchise.

Yes it is an odd move to me just looking at it straight on. I know Turner is a good locker-room guy though so that may be it, I don't think he was a bad guy, he literally just wasn't good enough in the NBA, his talent maxed out in college. He is well liked apparently and who knows between agents and players etc... why Boston made that move. I know Ainge isn't a fool so I am sure there is some logic to this.

Man I wish we could be his last stop. I'd much rather have him at the end of the bench instead of felicio :nonono:

Noah needs to retire as a Bull.

Noah would also help each with the passing and defense. I hope we find a way to have him sign an retire a bull.

Monitor the Beal situation. I don’t see Westbrook and Beal working out at all, especially with Russ wanting to play that alpha role again. Nobody eats.
