Do the Warriors have a roster spot available?

I think either guy would fit really well for the roster. I doubt either team would want to deal with us for different reasons.

Lou would be a perfect guy to start the 2nd unit. We need some offense on this 2nd unit.

They can have 15 players on the roster (maximum), and 2 2-way spots. Note that even though Klay’s not going to play this year, he still counts as a player on the roster.

Here’s who is on fully-guaranteed contracts (13):
Curry / Wiggins / Oubre / Draymond / Wiseman
Wanamaker / Poole / Bazemore / Paschall / Looney / Chriss / Smailagic
Klay

Partially-guaranteed contract (1):
Lee

2-way contract (1, so far):
Mannion

Unguaranteed contracts:
Mulder
Toscano-Anderson
Wesson (camp invitee)
Sutton (camp invitee)
Toupane (Exhibit 10 contract/camp invitee)

So assuming they keep Lee (and don’t just eat the $600k guaranteed on his contract by cutting him) and don’t trade any of the 13 guys on guaranteed contracts, that’s 14 roster spots right there. So they have 1 roster spot available, and 5 players competing for it.

Bear in mind, however, that given the Warriors’ luxury tax situation, they’re less likely to carry a 15th man on their roster, unless they really think that guy’s going to contribute.

So do they have a roster spot available? Technically, yes. But will they actually fill that spot? Maybe, maybe not.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

The last 3 guys will be fighting for the second 2-way spot. Mulder has $200k guaranteed if he's on the roster for the first regular season game.

And assuming the Warriors go into the season with this roster then the player who has done less/worse between Lee and Mulder is the loser if a talent the Warriors really want becomes available later.

So now it's just a waiting game.

And looking at the contract, that doesn't seem like a very smart partial guarantee by Mulder's agent. If it's a choice between two more or less even players, the W's save money by waiving Mulder.

Considering the leverage he had was negligible his agent probably got what he could.

I still have hope for Mulder. And the fact that we didn’t add a guard sharp shooter could be his ticket. He needs to shoot lights out in camp. And he just might.

I know he’s pigeon holed as just a smaller shooting two guard. But he has more athleticism than you might think, and he’s played point guard at times throughout his basketball career and he’s a good playmaker and can run an offense if needed. My point is, he’s not as one dimensional as most think.

Can you sign or trade for a person using the dpe if you already have 15 roster spots?

No, it's just a cap exception, it doesn't give you an extra roster spot.

We’re weak at wing and inexperienced at center. We also have 3 PGs and one on a 2-way.

So lets trade our only center with playoff experience and one of our wings for a high usage bad performing PG.

They tried to go to 4 2-way deals and it was rejected, supposedly by the players, but who knows who really shot it down.

Speaking of 2-way deals. Fans who like Omari Spellman should like new camp invitee Kaleb Wesson, only he has a chance to be better. Beefy guy who dropped 50 pounds to get down to 270lbs. 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan. Good position defender/rebounder, and he shot 42.5% from 3 last year. Old school PF. Good passer too.

As a concession to Covid they did increase the time allowed with the big club for 2-ways. Instead of a time limit of 45 days, they can play up to 50 games. That means they can have unlimited practice time with the club.

When I first saw that my brain said "45 days to 50 days? That's nothing!"

I suspect Covid is going to lead to some significant ownership favorable moves in the next CBA, and more 2-way deals seems likely.

Considering how the Covid explosion is going, expanding the rosters just seems like a no brainer to me.

I also thought they’d start the New Season at Christmas. I was wrong then, but was going against the talk of starting in January or February.

Things are fluid and changing. We still don’t have solid details on when the AL Star game is, so expanding the roster is by no means a dead issue.

According to the agreement they put out a few weeks ago, the All-Star break will be Mar 5-10, but there won't be an All-Star game.
