Didn't see that coming, this is also the first time LeBron signed an extension since his post-rookie deal with Cleveland.

Bron finally believes he has a competent front office that he can trust, and for good reason.

2 years sounds about right. I think he's done after that.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

Wait.
So he is here through this year and an option for next year under the current contract..

However AD is waiting on giannis to make a decision on staying in Milwaukee.

Bron taking a 40+ million extension is contradictory to what AD is planning to do?

Either giannis has informed us that he is not leaving bucks
Or
AD is planning to sign somewhere else?

...
I mean, im all for giving a max extension to LeBron it is well worth it. I expect him to sign one more multiple year contract after 2023.

However im just curious as to the timing, as it is off ; it messes up the cap space for what AD is trying to decide for.

AD will sign until 2023 also but with a player option.

He will opt out in 2022 and resign a contract then as 2022 is the first.year he is eligible for 35% max contract.

If I wanted to put the Giannis tinfoil hat on then it could easily be that Giannis signs a 2 year extension with Milwaukee.. that would make Giannis, LeBron, AD free agents in the same off-season in 2022. That would be spicy.

This falls under the bull$#!¥ mantra ‘I eat first!’.

Let’s hope it doesn’t repel AD. AD should be our first priority.

I'm pretty sure AD wanted a longer commitment from LeBron, before he'd sign... I don't think this is LeBron selfishness...

Pluss, we paid the hell out of Kobe... Seems reasonable to do the same for still prime LeBron...

I think LeBron plays until he's 40 like MJ and gets a few years in with his son... So I don't think we'll get too much more from him than this anyway.

The Kawhi and PG contracts line up with the same timeline as the current Lebron contract. Really thought that Lebron might retire then that whole circus with Kawhi would start again to pair the next (younger) star with AD.

Lakers stay championship caliber for the next couple years, but Lebron has to slow down eventually so I don't see him being worth $40 million in that last year. Thought that as Lebron slows down, he'd consider taking less money to help the team put more talent around him.

This contract is worth it because we'll have first dibs talking to Klutch clients for the next couple of years.

I want nothing to do with Kawhi at this point... He seems fragile as glass, and has terrible communication about how he's feeling. It's a tragic combination.

PG might be alright at the right price... But honestly, if Harrell and Schroder play to their potential, nothing more... We don't really need another major star, unless a guy like Luka falls from heaven...

kawhi is a low level character type in my opinion. His demeanor on camera the sarcastic things he says the way he handles or let's his associates bad mouth his own locker room mates is a mark of not really growing up in a good home social upbringing i guess. Nothing wholesome about him.

I figure LeBron will still be absolutely one of the top 5 players even at 38+ yrs of age. Highly productive even at 40. Can't wait to see him add more rings and have the Lakers become more cemented in him as being identified at the end eventually as primarily a Laker legend or great.
(Kind of like when you hear the name Wilt or kareem or shaq or Pau, you think Lakers. Not the other teams they played for)

That's so accurate bro.. Trez gonna be tough to re-sign on that contract, but star role players around Bron+AD is the way to go for sure.

Business wise -
- I'm his biggest fan, but realistically 50:50 Lebron's worth in his 38th year.
- However, what this does is, tie up Rich Paul's loyalty to the Lakeshow for 3 more years, which is massive for the Organization's stability.
- Lebron has said on record after Miami that he's never takin a less than max deal again in his career, as he felt no empathy for the vulture owners / front offices he worked with before the Lakers possibly. Lebron is a super weirdly adaptable dude who managed to go back to Cleveland and play for Dan Gilbert after that letter. I feel, there's a chance that he may be open to renegotiating his 37th or 38th year contract to make room for another superstar who gives him a chance to win, depending on how he feels about it at the time.

He is not Laker matieral, he is clipper material - he had his chance. We'll get someone better than him and younger :)

No one liked Harrell before he signed with the Lakers. People hated Pat Beverly, but the same people liked the thought of him possibly signing with the Lakers last off season. A lot of people weren't Lebron fans until he signed. It's all changes when they sign

Bron will still be the best Player in the NBA by the time this contract expires. When you look at The Mailman, he stayed in his prime until 38 and played power forward in the 90's. He took a lot more abuse and didn't have the knowledge or science to take care of his body like Bron does. We got him at a relative bargain considering what he brings. This is the biggest deal of the offseason.

LeBron deserves every penny. He guided this franchise through the death of Kobe and brought us an NBA Championship. Period.

I never heard of Harrell b4 lmao. As for Pat I wanted him for $15mil was one of few who wanted him. As for Lebron didn't want, still don't haha, just not a fan and can't really watch B-ball atm - but that's just me, at least I like AD and AC :). Understand, but don't think we'll get Kawhi nor even offer him anything (I could be wrong) there will be better players more keen around that time:)
