I expect Houston to struggle and deal a disgruntled Harden mid season.

So you expect Westbrook to miraculously develop a mid-range shot, instincts to be a floor general and passer in the same tier as Chris Paul and put in the work defensively on a consistent basis?

Good luck. I'd rather take my odds on the Knicks winning the Championship.

I didn't say he'll be CP3. I said he'll rehab his trade value the way CP3 did, and then the Wizards can flip him a year later for a better return. People forget he's healthy, only 31 and a former MVP. If he's back to 80% of peak in Washington, some PG starved team that strikes out in FA next year (Knicks) will trade a pick or two for him. Even if he plays well enough to get dealt for just cap space and no pick, Washington is a huge winner in this deal.

I have no faith in Wall being healthy enough to be anything more than an albatross deal going forward.

I mean, Houston had a certain amount of outside shooting on their roster too...

My gut says Houston lost this trade.

I am on the other side of the fence on this. I think this placates harden for this year. And Wall is just a superior def player.

Edit: for those curious, harden did report and has been in houston for awhile already before camp

According to Woj, not really:

Looks a lot more like the Westbrook holdout came first and Houston decided enough was enough.
Welp. Always assumed Russ was a bit more of a professional than that. Ah well

Not surprised the vote is so spread out, these are some high-variance players.

Is Washington getting good, MVP-level Russ? Or bad, grumpy, shoots his own team out of games Russ?

Is Houston getting good, back-to-his-old-self corner-3-factory Wall? Or bad, spotty-defence, never-gets-his-speed-back Wall?

A lot of possible outcomes here: if you expect the best of one and the worst of the other, your vote may look very different from someone who expects the opposite!

Well obviously Houston has a higher ceiling than the Wizards but I still think Washington won the trade. They only gave up a loterry protected FRP for a guy that can play and have more chances of improving his trade value.

And worst case scenario for Houston is quite bad since we got a pick swap top 4 protected...

Yeah, it's hard to nail down the value here for either side.

Kind of an interesting trade in that respect. There's not a lot that would have so many outcomes at least when the deal is made.

Shall we all promise to never call anyone “untradable” again?

Pretty nuts that 3 of the 5 largest contracts in the league have been traded in the past couple weeks.

I mean if they were traded for each other. One could infer that was the only option.

Initial thought is that this seems like one of those situations where someone on Craigslist trades a salvage title car (Wall) for a high maintenance luxury car (Westbrook) and both sides think they got the better end of the deal without realizing what they got themselves into.

CP. By biggest I’m referring to largest salary figure this year.

I have this as a win for Washington, rather easily.

I don't see Wall's game aging any better then Westbrooks (both are very reliant on speed/quickness and are relatively poor shooters) and while he's slightly younger he also has much more injury issues. With both declining, Westbrook is declining from a higher level and should remain at a higher level. Should be a better defender then Wall at this point as well (it's been a long time since Wall was good on D).

Washington now has a strong chance to make the playoffs. As for Houston, their main scouting on Wall's health seems to be Harden working out with him. Letting Harden play GM is how they botched the Paul/Westbrook deal to begin with.

These polls are always silly.

GMs do the trade thinking they are winning their side of the trade.

We vote as if we know more or our opinions are more valid than what reality just showed us.

Time will tell us who won. That is all.
