I enjoy Homer just because he seems to live and breath wisconsin sports and his neuroticism just bleeds through the speaker. The 12 year old sports fan in him has never left. But paying for it? Nah. Especially not the other guys. I straight up cant listen to Chmura. He sounds like a guy who goes to home depot four times a week and wont stop talking about zero turn mowers or flood lights. His words present themselves as flatulent to my ears. I can never listen for more than 30 seconds. He reminds me of Mark Schlereth. Both insufferable. Only outdone in that regard by that clown on the Milwaukee station who i havent listened to in so long that i forgot his name.. basically an old, fat white guy with colossally stupid takes.[/quote]

Yes, you read that headline right. Today is my last day after nearly 7½ years at the Journal Sentinel.

I never knew my life’s journey would lead me to Milwaukee and keep me here so long. That said, getting the opportunity to work at the Journal Sentinel fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a sportswriter — and then some.

By my count, I covered 485 college and professional games in person during my time at the Journal Sentinel, not including a pair of golf majors and a half-dozen high school state championships. I’m on a first-name basis with an MVP, have traded texts with Hall of Famers, sat courtside at the Final Four and much more.

That’s all still crazy to me. Those are my experiences. Somehow, that’s my life.

Well, that’s one part of my life. That was my job. There’s been so much more going on behind the scenes.

And that’s why I’m leaving the Journal Sentinel now, even though it is and has been a dream job. As much as it was the dream of my youth, I have a new, grander aspiration now. It’s something that didn’t come into focus until a couple of years ago and only truly took shape over the summer.

It’s time for me to help my wife fulfill her dream of becoming a physician. We moved to Indianapolis in August so that she could get started on that path. I’m no stranger to a long commute, but Indianapolis to Milwaukee just isn’t feasible.

Followed the grand tradition of Charles Gardner, Tom Enlund and Michael Hunt. Mix in Garry Howard.

I remember seeing Enlund nodding off during games when they moved the press guys out of courtside seats.

What I found interesting in the article was Matt referencing a downsizing severance opportunity from MJS. I mean if the Buck beat writer is eligible, that’s not a good sign. And yes, they’ll probably have someone on staff take over the beat, but it won’t be someone from the outside with greater credentials, because otherwise Matt wouldn’t have been eligible for the severance one might think.

A problem Kane has is that Matt took a downsizing severance buyout. Kane would be a new headcount addition over there, which likely goes against why they are doing those buyouts. As one of you pointed out above, they'll give the job to someone we've never heard of, who is already on staff.

Then again, that's pretty much how they've always filled that job. Promote up the lower cost staffer.
