Who are the Knicks saving all their cap space for in 2021 to strike out on?

i still would never take one of those horford like deals though. i just think 3 years at max money is a long time for 1 not lottery first. you never know what can happen.

its not that specific deal its just the approach that they continue to be flexible when ever year we are left picking from the same bottom of the barrel scrubs that will only take 1 year deals because no one really wants them
you know the term, maximizing your cap space.
We have now shown the NBA how to minimize your cap space with this approach.
But hey we get the pleasure to watch Austin Rivers this year

He is one of Thibs all time favorites and would sign a 1 year deal to stay home and play for Thibs in a heartbeat. He would also be a perfect mentor for Obi. I know there are no credible sources for the Heild trade but it makes some sense. Allows us to start Obi and them to start Haliburton. It also clears their biggest contract outside of Fox and they are kind of a cheap organization who might look to cut dollars during this time. I’m not saying it will happen, but I would be shocked if we don’t make a move and Taj is not on this team.
It honestly makes sense. Sacramento would get out of that albatross contract and get back a decent combo guard and Randle can play the 4 or 5. Mainly they get back something for a disgruntled player who doesn't have a great trade interest because of his contract and pandemic
It might not be great, but I don't see how that contract is an albatross. It's a long deal, but it only takes Hield to his age 30 season. He's a 40% shooter from three on top-5 in the league volume, with league average scoring efficiency as a baseline. He has a $25M cap hit this year, but then only around $20M for the 3 years after that.
He has his flaws for sure - defense and anything other than scoring - but I don't feel like it's a big enough negative deal to make it worth trading for expirings and questionable youth. I feel like the Knicks would have to kick in draft assets.

We need to value hunt for longer deals in free agency. Trades and the draft are where there Knicks can actually get guys and start to build credibility so bigger free agents will be interested.

I'd still want Buddy here. He's THJr, but this time for real. His stroke is that pure uncut.

Re: Around the NBA - Offseason Chatter
People want to fill the cap space with flawed one dimensional players but then as soon as some unexpected opportunity comes along the Knicks can't do anything because they have no flexibility and players nobody wants on contracts that make it impossible to do anything.
Doing the same stupid thing over and over isn't going to yield better results. Last year the Knicks struck out on real franchise changing type FAs but they were also injury risks so they chose to punt in maybe the most expensive way possible, not that wise but whatever.
This year there really wasn't any franchise changing FAs so the punt is more understandable but they did it in a more economic way on players that are better fitting, save one of course. While still collecting draft assets and young players so it sets up for the future.
Why are people in such a rush instead of allowing a new regime to establish itself and see what the coaching staff can so with the existing youth? There isn't anyone available at this point that will make them a contender for anything but may hurt the draft pick so just chill, it is what it is.

I hope Toppin is great, but it’s like building an NFL team with receivers and a running back without an Oline or a QB..we have now spent two straight lottery picks without addressing the point guard position, and don’t tell me the plan was to wait till 2021 draft to finally get one..we are going to waste another year of development wondering how good these guys could be with a point guard.

Does Hield play PG? No? Then how is this the response to my point?
