We can forget about the 21' free agent class now.

I was surprised that he took that deal. In a couple of years he would have been eligible for a large percentage of the cap. It's weird to see a max guy leave money on the table. And in addition to the raise, he could have had more max level years.

I think AD realized that it's a lot easier to be Pippen than Jordan, good for him to know himself.

Oh I get that. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't get the absolute max.

I think it's because the cap isn't going to go up substantially in the next few years while they mitigate the covid related losses from last year and this year into the next few years. Might as well secure the guaranteed money then. I think contract extension negotiations will be around the time he's eligible for 35% of the cap anyway.

But that's just it. If he takes a 2 year (2+1) he'd then be eligible for the 35% and he could resign on a 5 year max at that point to get even more. Now he's got to wait an additional 2 years at 30% and then will he get a long term max at 35? It's not a given. But it would be at 32.

I would have been shocked if AD had signed with any other team. He could choose Los Angeles, LeBron, and be an ongoing title favorite, or try to get a few more bucks and be the next Gordon Hayward. Easy call that.

I love seeing sports guys have their own businesses outside of sport and growing it. Very smart.

He can go full Lebron... go with Lebron while it lasts (and being the Lakers I have a feeling that they will add another superstar next year for whatever reason) and then just move to another superteam to win titles and spend all the time trying to get more titles than everyone else.

Anyway... this seems like playing for the Bulls will be a worst case scenario: get a big paycheck... and the chances aren't good for us.

Can’t he just demand a trade again if the situation is bad?

Yes he can.

But my point is that if he goes full Lebron he will be jumping from super team to super team taking advantage of the free agency to avoid making the teams give so much for him or another star. (and to win more titles and have a better legacy it is the smart thing to do... that and avoid being stupid like Durant that could just heal up that injury and still be going strong in the Warriors instead of being in the situation he is in with an unproved team).

If the Bulls turn this around and are able to get a promising team while keeping cap/assets for these moves, I say that he won't play here. But that's our best chance because if he just wants a big paycheck in a good market for other things extra basketball he is already in the franchise to be.

Wonder how much longer Lebron plans on playing. Two more years at least.

Ideally 2 years ago he said he wanted to play one season with Bronny. One gotta make sure that Bronny is good enough to make the NBA (here's looking at you Marcus Jordan) and that Lebron is still able to produce and not just be an end of the bench guy(Robert Parish on the Bulls), which I am pretty sure he won't be, but he very well might not be elite anymore.

He needs to showcase his best move which is blowing in Lebron's ear if he is going to come back.

I would love if he retired sooner. He is a very good player but his personality and his fans... oh my.

But as I respect his dedication and talent... if he doesn't have any significant injury he can play until he is 40 or more. Look at Jordan and Malone... until they had major injuries they were rocking at a high level at that age.

So... I would say we will still have him on the league at least 5 years. And possibly even more. And he will still be one of the best players of the league, mainly when he keeps going from super team to another and tampering everyone...

I think the wear and tear type injuries (knees/back/etc) get to LBJ before his athleticism declines enough to make him average. But he doesn't Brady-type things to stay fresh, so you never know.

Not that I have the same dislike for Davis as I had for LeBron going to Miami, but I hope over the life of that contract he just signed, the Lakers don't win another title. The fact that the Lakers basically got away with tampering (yeah, they got somewhat punished but they still ended up with Davis, so...)

I'm just tired of seeing current NBA "stars" becoming female body parts, when face with a little adversity.

A fringe contending team should roll the dice on him - Miami, Milwaukee, Philly, etc. He could be a good player off the bench

Well, it's likely. For a team full of old and injury-prone guys, they had great luck with the break and the bubble. With travel back in, this season is going to be much more difficult for older players. The bubble was great for them; zero travel, less restlessness (not seeing friends/family/love-life), great weather.

With COVID in full-swing, season starting in the heart of winter, these guys aren't gonna be hanging in Orlando. They'll fly into cold towns, extra safety protocols at airports and hotels. This season is going to wear vets out. Lakers addressed their needs, and they're still pretty loaded, but like last year's team, there are cracks in the armor. Of course they're a legit contender (at worst), but 2 lucky years in a row? I dunno. Usually teams sleep on the losers. Clippers lost depth but Kawhi and George aren't gonna come back sleep-walking after that humiliation.

I just wonder at what time Lebrons medicines will wear off. Father time is undefeated. Also, the Lakers did get lucky with health of AD. However, as long as those 2 are healthy they are a top team. I do think it will be tougher though and wonder if they will miss physical presence of Howard and playoff Rondo.
