Right time to pounce on PJ Tucker??
Houston seem to be in a vulnerable condition right now. I mean you gotta be if you're trading Russ for perhaps the worst contract in basketball history. A Harden trade coming by the deadline is also a real possibility
Houston signed Chris Wood & Boogie, so PJ's role has become somewhat dispensable.
If PJ can send a couple of tweets here and there and maybe post a picture with his good friend Rich Paul.. basically do enough to annoy Fertita. Pelinka could have this wrapped up by tomorrow morning.
The Player -
We know about his defensive prowess and versatility enough, so I'll just throw in something about his offensive contribution -
- No 1 corner 3 shooter in the league for 2 years now
- Great screen setter and intelligent system guy
- These legit 3&D bigs like Gasol, PJ & AD are so rare and make a massive difference to the way we can play on offense. It's like enforcing the Illegal Defense rule upon the opposition. We were dead last(30th) on drives to the basket stat last season thanks to Dwight / McGee's defenders being camped in the lane. Guys like Kuz, Caruso, Schroeder & Lebron can find so much joy on back cuts and dives with the improved spacing on the floor
Package -
Kuz + McKKinnie
Why would Houston do it?
Fertita is broke AF right now cos of Covid, and he doesn't wanna pay PJ next year. If they're planning to blow it up, Kuz could be a nice cheap piece to get 20 ppg on a losing team where he gets his $15m contract.
Why PJ would do it?
Cos he'd have figured by now that Fertita doesn't intend to pay him, and the organization overall looks to be headed to the Knicks / Cavs(sans Lebron) category of the egoistic dumb owners in the very near future.
Dude's sturdy as hell - hasn't missed a single game over the last 3 years. His game isn't overly athletic, so Rob should be able to extend him a 1+1(team option) deal to his 37th year to match Lebron's timeline.

I’m game. There’s gotta be a way while keeping Kuzma.
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4
PG: Luka / Vincent / Bronny
SG: Smart / Reaves / Knecht / Mañon

Re: Right time to pounce on PJ Tucker??
They'd have to match salaries and PJ is exclusively more of a 4/5 at this point of his career. Lakers have Trez/Markieff/Davis/Gasol all sharing minutes. PJ will fit great here but he's an UFA next offseason and I think he replaces Markieff's role in 21/22

Re: Right time to pounce on PJ Tucker??
Rockets will ask for draft compensation that Lakers don't have and I don't think I'd trade Kuz or THT for him. Kuz made good strides as a wing defender last season and if he erases some boneheaded mistakes coming from getting carried away, he can be molded into that role.

Not enough outgoing salary. You either have to add THT or put in Caruso in place of McKinnie. I don't like any of those.

Is McGinnis good? I thought he was just filler to make the gasol trade happen.

Yeah add Dud if required.. Not doing Caruso / THT straight up for PJ either.

Nah.. poor shooter with nice mechanics. Big serviceable wing defender, prone to the occasional lapses.

I was not suggesting to add Caruso, I was saying it would be necessary to make the OP's trade idea work. Also, Dudley is not tradable unless it is/was done as a S&T at the time of his signing.

Re: Right time to pounce on PJ Tucker??
We are good with the bigs.
PJ was great but he was a necessity for Houston, and a luxury for us at this point. He should be playing 3/4 in our lineups, and not 4/5. So that means he is a 3 and D guy for us, not an all around positional player for the Rockets, and we have many 3 and D guys.

Well if we trade Kuz and McKinnie, we only have Lebron & Wes as bigger wings against Clips / Nets.

This guy is such a bulldog and so automatic from those corner 3's. He's wasting his time in Houston if he stays.
