I don't think he will be a consensus #1.

No. It’s just that kuminga and green haven’t played yet and Suggs got hurt last night.

Eh, I don't know about that. Cade has been perceived as the consensus number 1 pick by every draft outlet for the past year or so. The main thing for me is his lack of aggressiveness, particularly on the offensive side.

people who have been saying Cade is consensus #1 don't realize how good Mobley/Green are, like I've been saying.

That is college coaching in general. Most don't maximize their individual talent advantages.

welcome to college football

even Zion wasn't utilized correctly at Duke lol

I love him too. Think he is definitely in the top tier. Just waiting to see how he has progressed.

I am a Grizz fan. So we are going to have to deal with Luka for the next decade. I want someone who can at least bother him  .

I had him ranked 2nd on my big board behind Cade( it was based on potential though). Tbh though i hope he slips so we can nab him with the HOU pick( if Harden is traded before the deadline).

I still think he's number 1 as of right now. To his defense though, he isn't the type to be aggressive and drop 40( as opposed to someone like Green). He seems to be more content with doing what's best for the team and letting the game come to him as opposed to forcing things(which I think is an underrated part of his character).

Just curious if Ja Morant was in this draft class would he be in the running for the top pick? Or would Cade still have the slight edge over everyone as the favorite to go #1 overall?

Because there are two potential elite initiators in the class and that's worth way more than Mobley

And if Keon is a stud he probably shouldn't go top3 either

He would be in the mix for 2nd with Suggs

Also big no to Kuminga that high, he is basically Rudy Gay

I don't atm. I'm really liking Mobley and Suggs. Although I see the appeal with Cade, especially in transition.

I need to watch him with comparable or better talent. I want to see how much he's improved his jumper and G league competition. I can't wait to watch him and Green.

I don’t need to prorate it because 24 minutes is context enough, thanks.

Point is, there were a lot of rave reviews for his first game that weren’t matched by his box, no matter what slice of the numbers you take. Which is fine! The box rarely tells the whole story. That’s why I asked for impressions from people who saw the game.

We're about 2 weeks past a draft where a lot of people had a tall point guard who didn't score efficiently but rebounded and assisted at a rate that suggested a future triple-double threat as the #1 prospect.

In the year 2010 it's not a novel concept that the box score doesn't capture defense very well (oops, I meant to type 2020 but even 10 years ago it still would apply) so it seems like common sense would dictate that anyone saying Barnes looked good would say his defense was really good. Other than that, what responses were you expecting - "OMG you're right on! I don't know what these other people are talking about. He only scored 8 points and didn't shoot well so he actually had a bad game." lol

I was expecting the responses I got: some color about what he looked like on the floor. It was a question without agenda.

If you’re one of these people who assumes every question about their favorite prospect is a sneak attack on their draft stock, you might want to take a beat and emotionally detach. You’ve gone to a weird place with this.

No, I wouldn't say Barnes is my favorite prospect; if you're assuming anyone who pokes fun at your lazy one-liner post is doing so because they're personally invested in the draft stock of someone they don't know and will never meet, maybe you might want to step back. I was just poking fun at your lazy one-liner post because A) if people are saying someone without a ton of points played really well, you can use some obvious process of elimination to infer they played good defense and B) even without that, it displays some general board-level ignorance about the box score to not understand that defense aside, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in 24 minutes is enough to indicate a player's pretty versatile, especially when triple doubles are much more rare in college than they are in the NBA.

The perimeter vs. post distinction is meaningful, and even as far as bigs go I see Mobley as being pretty good at lots of different things but not particularly great at one thing. It's hard to see him as some paragon of modern perimeter skill when his three-point and free throw numbers are in line with what we saw from Bagley at Duke. Obviously the defensive potential is his biggest selling point, but the lack of strength is going to mitigate that some in the NBA. Even in this game with all the highlights Mobley had defensively, the difference between the two teams was UConn killing USC on the glass to the tune of a 40% offensive rebounding rate.
