Austin replacing Shepherd. GB had to do it, Shepherd was not helping.

Tough go for him here. That Detroit game last year was terrible, and then he hasn't done a whole lot this year even though Rodgers tried to get him targets and involve him on offense. If he could have produced as a returner... but he ended up being zero threat there, then the Indy game--with a fumble along with all the no-catch-attempts on other punts that rolled and pinned GB deep. Seems like a hard worker and probably was alright in practice, but man, games were tough.

Does Austin still have his speed? Thought he was younger than 30.

Not sure on the top end speed, but seems to still have some juice.

Hoping he’s a better Tyler Ervin, which would be pretty helpful.

Hoping the same, but at the least it gives us another Ervin type, which seems important role in our offense whether that role gets touches or not

Exactly. Ervin in motion has caused defensive shifts, even when he hasn't been the carrier or the target. Austin ought to draw the same interest, if not more.

I'm imagining a stacked formation with them two on the same side with one going into motion for the sweep. Can do a RPO with the jet sweep, a WR screen on the opposite side, a handoff up the gut, or a pass to Adams behind the MLB on the crosser.

One thing I love about MLF is the imagination and ripples in using our personnel. Big Mac just got so stale after years, it's so great to see so much motion and misdirection under MLF

I would offer a 2nd (with the potential to become a first) to the Ravens for Marquise Brown. I don't think they are using him correctly at all.

They seem off this year. That said if I am trading a second DJ Moore is the guy I want. He doesn’t seem important to Carolina and would be perfect here.

I feel you could get MOORE for LESS

Hahahahaha, I crack myself up.

I like him....but really like Brown. I feel like the Ravens just send him on fly routes and don't have a clue how to use him. He needs to be used like KC uses Hill. Screens, misdirection plays, over the middle passes he can take to the house.

Does that imply that Sternberger might be out for a bit, due to concussion?

That was my first thought as well.

Second concussion for him - as a Packer? No two concussions are alike, so maybe they treat this with some extra caution?

Dumb annology I thought of this morning: the packers D is the Kirk Cousins of defenses. Highly paid, can look great if you catch them on the right day or awful if you see them on the wrong day, overall you can win with them but probably won't win because of them, they terrify you against good teams in big moments.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

can someone explain something to me? The packers picked Sternberger and Deguara in the third round in successive drafts. Sternberger has played about 25% of the offensive snaps this year, and Deguara less than 4%.
When they made these picks I thought it meant they'd be using a lot of 2 TE sets, perhaps as H-backs. But no.
Lewis and Tonyan have combined to play about 100% of the snaps (obviously sometimes they were on the field together).
Did they really think Sternberger and Deguara were the BPA by far, or did they make a strategic error (picking guys they should have known they wouldn't use because of their position)?

I think it's pretty simple. They believe they have to be good at pass defense to win against good teams. Which means they are vulnerable to run-heavy offenses. Because they've been ahead in most games, their run defense stats don't look so bad because the other team is mostly passing.
plus Preston Smith has mostly sucked this year. And King has missed some playing time.

Injuries have largely limited both guys practice and playing time.
