Oh for sure... No way we're letting that one go...

If for whatever reason this all blows up after this season and he goes and wins another chip somewhere else before he retires, maybe not, but I don't think there's any question we'll hang his jersey if he retires here... Pau too probably... AD also if all works out...

Lakers jerseys are going to start using letters soon. D1 Like battleship or bingo...

Totally. I have always thought Fisher, Horry, Cooper, and maybe even Scott should have their jerseys retired. I often wondered what we'd do about the jersey numbers in a while.

Wilt played 5 seasons with us. His 2nd season he had a horrible injury, and only played 12 games. Came back and played alright the 3rd year....and won title in his 4th season. One more, and then called it a career. He was clearly on the back-9 when he arrived. He had 2 seasons averaging about 20 points, and 2 seasons averaging about 14 points. Let's not include the 12 game season. Not horrible numbers, but a shadow of his dominance (Rebounding was still there though). In other words: Wilt didn't make the HoF from his time in LA. I've always considered his jersey a little on the iffy side....but he did win a title here. So he added wood to the fire.

Same with Lebron. If something happened, and he forced a trade in the next couple weeks.....yeah, it prob won't happen. But he has won a chip with the P&G....and I'd bet even if he just played one more season, it would happen. 3 more years??? Definitely. More titles, or not. If he brings more than one, title.....then I wouldn't consider it even slightly 'iffy'.

That's my reasoning with Pau. Dude was a MAJOR factor in 2 titles (one against the Goombas). He's gotta be retired.

Whether he wins another championship or not, just the fact he is staying until end of career here he should get a retired number.

Hard to not retire the jersey of a finals MVP for your team when he also intends to play 4-5 seasons.

The man singehandedly pulled the franchise from the depths of nba irrelevance to championship contention for the foreseeable future. He deserves a statue as well.

Without a doubt. Every Laker who helped lead the team to a championship and is in the HOF has had his jersey retired. There is no way Lebron would be the first not have his number in the rafters.

Usually you need longevity, but the fact that he's one of the greats and already won a championship, they'd probably retire his jersey eventually even without the contract extension.

Finals MVP of a Lakers Championship. This isn't even a question to me.

Is there any other player to have his Jersey retired in more than one teams besides Jordan? Lebron will have 3 teams retire his jersey.

Chamberlain is currently he only one retired by 3 teams (Warriors, Lakers, Sixers). There are actually a handful of players who’ve been retired by more than one team. Kareem, Drexler and Barkley come to mind.

I think a team like the Lakers have higher standard. I expect an automatic rafter spot if he leads the team to 3 Rings. If not then it will depend on length of Lakers team membership. If he wins just the 1 ring and retires after 3 more years when the contract expires then I don’t think so. If he plays another 2 afterwards, then 7 years plus 1-2 rings should be enough.

LeBron’s battle against Father Time will also be considered. If he starts falling off after 1-2 years, then not so sure he gets into the rafters.

I'm not a fan of Bron but I think his jersey will be retired by the Lakers in the end. Pau should be too. If AD ins another chip or win an MVP award with the Lakers in the next 5 years then his number should be retired too.

Chamberlain played the last 5 years of his career and won only 1 championship with the Lakers. With the contract extension, Lebron would match Wilt’s Laker career if he doesn’t win another one.

With that precedence, I’m fairly certain Lebrons jersey will be up in the rafters.

That would be amazing to see Pau, LeBron, AD get their numbers retired eventually. And future stars as well.
