It's beyond stupid not to have kept his expiring contract to get some assets.
Anyway considering last draft picks its not like the whole FA has been a surprise.

You don't think Kupchak ferociously shopped Batum's expiring contract? You honestly think Kupchak just skipped right to signing Hayward? And you honestly think the Hornets could have better spent the Hayward contract money on someone from this next dried up class? Who? Who exactly is better than Hayward from this next class? And why would a GM give draft assets for expiring cap facing a dried up free agent class? Most of those capped out teams are like the Clippers, they'd have to send out 27 million in contracts of players more valuable than Batum and most of them have sold off future drafts. Even the Warriors sold off a first for Oubre. OUBRE. Compare Oubre to Nic Batum. Suns sold off a first for Paul. CHRIS PAUL. Lakers sold off firsts for ANTHONY DAVIS. Bucks sold off firsts for JRUE HOLIDAY. Clippers sold off firsts for PAUL GEORGE. Miami owes multiple firsts. Houston sold off firsts for WESTBROOK.
Who were the Nets going to send out for Batum's 27 million? They have their picks. Did you expect the Wizards to send out Wall plus a pick for Batum instead of Westbrook? Sacramento Barnes (better than Batum) plus a first? Sacramento. A first?
What is this great deal for expiring Batum that Kupchak missed? Until you can sell me on a compelling proposal that a pro GM missed you're just bashing Kupchak senselessly.

No he didn't try hard enough because he got rid of him before the trade deadline, where teams that aren't in the hunt decide to cut their losses and trade bad contracts. He had MONTHS to try to do something with Batum if our front office wasn't so perennially impatient. Mitch is a clown for how this was handled so please stop defending him.

Where is your mystery missed deal? What was this better alternative trade where Kupchak sent out Batum? Pick the team. Pick the 27 million in players coming back. I'll get ready to LMAO. Until you have one iota of a clue about Kupchak's choices with Batum you have no leg to stand on and you're just senselessly, baselessly bashing Kupchak for something I'm supposed to just assume he didn't explore as a professional. Kupchak has been trying to find a place to dump Batum since he arrived. He's been exploring deals for years, not months. I'm supposed to believe he was just sitting on his ass while GM's were banging down his door to send out 27 million in players for Batum? **** no.

I love how in the same post you attack my dude for not having any clue about what is going on behind closed doors... Then turn around and senselessly, baselessly, make a bunch of claims as to what Kupchak was trying to do.
You work in the FO? Have inside sources? Got Kupchak on your Rolodex? No?
