The Netflix series ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ is pretty good. Watched all 7 episodes consecutively without a break, I couldn't stop until it's finished.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer exceeded my expectations. That was fun.

I'm planning on watching the Heaven's Gate doc but haven't got to it yet. I always find crazy ass cults to be interesting.

I should really look into that series. Saw a random episode a few years ago and found it smart and unsettling. That check out?

Was amazed to find out this is the last season and they're only doing 4 total. Will be interesting to see if they follow the comic/manga storyline or if they do a completely different thing.

This. Interested if they follow the manga or not as well.

I'm in the minority, but I couldn't get into the series at all.

The first half of the first season has a ~3 episode stretch of people YELLING THEIR FEELINGS which isn't great, but yes, that checks out. It adhered pretty closely to the source material which is one of the better examples of how to construct a mystery box narrative that both feels organic, and pays off its threads.

I imagine the backlash will be pretty intense if they go anime original. Given the expected chapter count of ~45, I'm a bit concerned about the announced 16 episode run. I wonder if they'll end up splitting it into two parts like they did season 3, and end up on ~26 episodes or so.

I usually give series a chance but I turned this off after a few minutes. I'll go back to it though and give it another shot.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm only half way thru, but had the urge to shut it off in Episode 1 as well, glad I didn't.
Doesn't feel like the origin episode was indicative of the rest of the series to me, was the worst episode so far for me.

Yeah, the first episode doesn't go with the rest of it. Plus, Anya Taylor-Joy isn't in it. And her performance in episodes 2-7 is easily the best part of the series (to me anyway).
I would encourage anyone who turned it off after one episode to try again, because she is absolutely fantastic.

Incredible. Now I want to see more fast-food mini-series. Imagine a Burger King murder mystery

This WarnerMedia stuff moving their 2021 slate to HBOMax is crazy. I wonder what the fallout and ensuing litigation will be.

Re: OT: TV and Movies (With Spoilers)
I'm sure I'll get a lot of backlash from the "you should go to the theater and financially support artists and their intellectual property" crowd, but who seriously is gonna take the side of the distributors on this one? Guys like Nolan just sounding incredibly tone deaf. This is a pretty special circumstance and I don't really see their "slippery slope" argument in regards to streaming. Reeks of corporate greed in a time where a lot of people are hurting financially.
