Trent can really, really shoot, but we already have too many guys who can't handle the ball, and Donte to Trent is another major downgrade there.

Not very much statistical evidence that he's anywhere close to Donte's level defensively. Even if I do think his shooting would fit really well in the starting lineup.
Pretending like there is any good statistic that projects how good an individual is defensively, is silly.

There's a middle ground between taking defensive metrics as gospel and throwing them away entirely. He wasn't on Donte's level defensively this last season and that's even including the eye test. Whether or not he can get there in the next couple years is a different debate.

As was stated by another poster, he's a much better on-ball defender than Donte. I'd prefer to have another versatile on-ball guy than Donte's rotational knack, but that's just me.

I'm loving this Bobby Portis move more and more. I really think Bud can take his game to the next level. Love everything he's said so far in his interviews.

Yeah I like the move a lot too. This off-season was good. Portis is basically a higher-ceiling of Ersan. Sure you lose some of the Defensive awareness that Ers brings, but his potential is >>> and hunger/drive to get better. Even losing Wes is nothing honestly, easily replaceable. We got better period. If these guys can hit that next gear, it'll be awesome. We knew what the ceiling was with Ers/Wes.

Portis going to the dumpster fire in New York and underachieving (can't blame him, it's the Knicks), really drove down his value. He's worth much, much more than than the 2/$7.4m we got him for.

David Griffin must be p*ssing himself with excitement over those future swaps with Giannis seemingly being non-committal

Anfernee Simons is the Blazer I'd try to steal. Shooting %s and per minute production dropped in his second year making it seem like he regressed, but he's still only 20 and I feel his potential is huge. Trent stepping up also overshadowed him a bit.

I'm just happy we have added a lot of guys in the 22-27 age range, highlighted by Portis, Forbes, Nwora, Merrill. Lord knows we needed that. My favourite is Forbes, I think he will be good for us.
still learning the game

Ersan was on some real dumpster fire teams with the Bucks and looked terrific when given a larger scoring role. I hope Portis does well too but to put him in the same breath as Ersan is an absolute joke to me. Workouts over actual play I guess. Same thing that made so many people think Yi was going to be great. Portis is an absolute dunce on the court.

So...keepp someone who can't shoot and can sometimes play D? Trent is also a better defender then you think if you watch him play.

I don't know where you get that Donte can *sometimes* play D, but I agree that Trent is a pretty good defender.

apparently you can't handle the truth.

Rockets trade Harden, House and Tucker for Middleton, Lopez, Wilson and Donte. Would anyone do this?
