Green for Horford and picks: your take?

Green means Go: Sixers win. They trade a redundant, expensive luxury for a need and don't have to add that much.

Green around the gills: Thunder win. They're cycling through productive vets and still adding picks along the way.

Wait in the Green room: both sides win. Philly improves on the court and OKC improves their stash.

The Grass is always Green-er: both sides lose. Green is more rep than production, and OKC didn't get paid enough for taking on Horford.

So, they used up the ability to trade cash, but almost definitely won't. Seems a poor usage of a trade asset. Wouldn't OKC rather have 500k now, guaranteed?

Very bizarre stuff. I assumed OKC would be sending the cash to cover Poirier's salary (it's the least they can do). But then it turns out we send cash, which further negates the cost savings of moving Horford only it turns out we likely didn't? I don't get it.

The more important takeaway if I can actually be optimistic for a minute is one of the big questions over the last couple of years is whether ownership actually will pay the tax. While obviously they cut salary this year, it's still a little promising that they are not only in the tax but still sending cash to make deals instead of receiving it.

But they aren't sending cash. They are sending fake cash. Top 4 protected cash. Cash only if the Sixers win the draft lottery for 3 straight years. Okay or 1-6 year one, so they could be the 2nd worst team in the league and get it then by sheer awfulness.

But even if the Sixers are the worst team in the league for 3 straight years, there is still less than a 23% chance they pick top 4 each in '26 and '27.

This is the equivalent of a top 55 protected 2nd from a bad team. It just deprives a trade asset from the tool box. If Philly had included 250k guaranteed instead, I bet OKC would have said yes.

That's what I get for trying to be optimistic but you're right. This only allows them to not send out 5.6 million later because they "can't" send out that much even if they are never actually spending the money.

So the cash counts against the Sixers max cash to send this year even though the trigger (which likely never occurs) happens in 27? This isn’t an area I know a lot about but that seems odd.

So is there a waiting period to trade Ferguson or Poirier separately, if they wanted to clear a roster spot?

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Nope. Never. Only on aggregating and that is 21 days this year, 2 months in general.

I trust Marks wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true, but it really does seem off. Haven't if not a pick is cash/2nds 1sts been done before and I have never heard of it counting like this.
Also, the cash is contingent on the pick conveying; if OKC trades the pick do they have the chance to keep the cash? Or does it automatically go with the pick (like the 2nd). This seems like if it were true, OKC would need to lose the ability to send out 2m when/if they trade the pick.

Marks can get sloppy, he initially reported the December 15th date stayed the same for this year and everyone wondered if we would see immediate sign and flips. Maybe this is Marks mispeaking?
