Don't worry next year with Banchero and Griffin you guys should look much diffrent. Hopefully, Coach K doesn't mess it up lol.

I think Banchero is going to be a beast in college, but Im still not sold on his spot in the NBA. Griffin on the other hand, Im hook line and sinker on that dude. I think he is a phenom.

Yup I'm with you 100%. His frame should allow him to guard 2-4 and his jumper is much better than I thought. He's an athletic beast. I love Banchero's court vision, something about it appeals to me. I love the pair and think next year is the year to be optimistic.

Might I add Griffin looks to have the look/feel for a number one pick. Seems very teachable and able to mold him. I love defense/offense wings.

Ya as a Duke fan I cant wait. Again my only question with Banchero is on the NBA level, I think he is a beast of a player. Now if they add Baldwin to that group, that team can be super fun to watch.

Griffin to me is pretty much the ideal wing prospect in todays game. Love everything about his game.

The next Duke game is canceled and the previous postponed ones are canceled as well. And the Alabama coach called him out on it haha.

dude probably just doesn't want to coach at this point and using this as an excuse, selfish af, let these players play, they signed up at Duke to play not sit at home.

Hindsight being what it is. Jalens stock take a hit more here than it would have going G League?

Ya he said he did it for the players... K said when he told the players they were overjoyed and loved the decision...

Ya Im sure these 18-22 year olds who all have professional basketball on their minds are overjoyed that they dont get to play basketball while their peers get to.

Alabama's coach response to all this:
"Do you think if Coach K hadn't lost his two nonconference games at home that he would still be saying that?"

Haha so freaking true. If this was the Zion team or next year's team with Griffin and Banchero K aint canceling games. We would be hearing the K that we heard a couple months ago saying that we need to be playing college basketball.

Probably. I mean Ive liked what Ive seen from him defensively so far. Like he is giving me solid glimpses of being able to play small ball 5 (obviously not as his main position). But offensively, my god I cant believe how misused he has been so far.

i'm actually higher on Jalen now than I was coming in, he has legit size, uses it well to set up positioning for rebs, athleticism looks better to me than what I saw on tape at the HS level, and he actually brings it defensively, we'll see what happens but I don't think his overall moved either way from a general standpoint

Jalen Johnson

Post#52 » by hart1331 » Wed Jan 20, 2021 3:05 pm

Couldn't find a thread of his own, so feel free to move this if he has one already.

Thought I had to make him one though, he's going to be a star.

Watched him play last night vs Pittsburgh. He has take over ability. But even more so then his play on the court, was his attitude. Fouled out of the game with 2 minutes left, as he was leading his team to a come back. Went to the bench, and you saw the emotion, but it wasn't at the refs or anything like that, it was at himself. 20 seconds later, his team mate falls on the court at a whistle, whos the first one out there helping him up? Jalen Johnson. Team is drawing up a play in the dying seconds, whos in the middle of the scrum, coaching up his teammates? Jalen Johnson. He has the intangibles that coaches drool over.

I'm not sure where his position is in the NBA, ( I lean towards PF) but either way, he's going to be a stud.

He's back! That was great to see, but I need to see more - since he hadn't done anything since their 1st game.

Absolutely. He's had a few stinkers in between, but when he's on, I'm not sure he's not a top 3 pick in this draft. Consistency issues are pretty common for younger guys too.

Last night was the first game all season where it felt like he was really into the game. Unpacked his bags a bit, so to speak. Every other game you could see him getting frustrated with teammates and his attitude was concerning, even felt like there was a chance he would just leave the team and wait for the draft.

If he can play the rest of the season like he did last night, he's a top 5 pick minimum.

What's his elite skill? Rebounding and defense?

He's a good college player, and he looks like he'll be a good pro, but I'm not seeing a ton of upside. I'm seeing a Shane Battier-type defensive player with better athleticism and worse shooting touch. He should be rotational, but I don't see how he's a star right now. Overall, his offensive skills are too basic for him to be a high-usage player in the NBA.

I think he'll go mid-late lottery when it's said and done (e.g., 8-12 range). He needs to shoot better if he wants to stay in the top 7 of the draft, imo. Otherwise, a player like Scottie Barnes or even Greg Brown could sneak ahead of him. Guards like Moody and Bouknight could also go ahead of him.

He looks like post-multiple surgeries Jabari Parker. Don’t see the appeal with him at all. Just a funky archetype in today’s game.

A power forward who will offer very little rim protection and questionable lateral quickness. Not a shooter or isolation scorer. Doesn’t have the intangibles to be a connector.

Do not like anywhere in the top half of this draft.

Hmm he had 5 blocks yesterday. Averaging 2 blocks per game at 6'9". He will offer about as much rim protection as one would expect from a 4 in the NBA. And the way the league is going with guys like PJ Washington, Roby and Paschall playing the 5, maybe more than that. His rim protection is a bonus not a requirement for his archetype.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

this is weird to me...how is a 6-9 (and he's a legit 6-9 btw) point-forward who can run transition, half-court, shoot from multiple levels and defend at an + rate a 'funky archetype'?
