JJB cut. Will he get a contract?

Post#1 » by Apz » Thu Dec 10, 2020 2:24 am

So Barea will get cut tomorrow. As we thought Cuban gave him them 2.6m as a gift. But Barea still want to play. Personally I think he would be a great mentor/vet in some young team, but atm most teams are full right? Team like okc or hornets, or maybe knicks could have used him to mentor their young guys I think.

Maybe a non-guaranteed deal for now

The Clippers could easily use a vet like that.

Wouldn't mind him signing with Memphis to be a mentor/spark out of the bench.

Cuban is such an awesome dude. Really envious of your guy's owner.

No idea if Barea will get a contract. If not, I'm sure he can ride off into the sunset in Europe somewhere.

This is most likely the end of the line for him. Dude wasn't drafted coming out of Northeastern and the fact that he made over 41M playing 14 years in the league for a player of his size(5'10 180lbs) and in a position of pg is impressive not to mention winning a ring and being apart of one of the greatest playoff runs in recent memory.

He should take on a coaching/player development role with the Mavericks if he wants.

This was his signing bonus to be on Rick's staff. They never intended for him to make the roster, but wanted to give him one last nice payday. Super classy move by Cuban.

I heard he's going to spend more time moderating on RealGM under the screen-name 'Texas Chuck.'

perhaps- but he isn't a very good player any more from what I've seen. Also, even though he is short, he isn't really a distributing point guard.

Couldn't they have just signed him to a big deal as an assistant?

Not without ticking off some of their current assistants making less I wouldn't think.

But also he really wants to play so this was giving him a shot --and they were honest with him about his chances.

That makes sense. And I saw after about him maybe wanting to keep playing, so now its more clear. Always liked Cuban.

Highly doubts he gets a contract anywhere to play, but I can definitely see him being an assistant there.

Lasted longer in the NBA than most of the guys drafted in the lottery during his draft year. Great career for him.

Knicks need a vet point. He would be a good backup vet for them.

I don't see why any team would be interested in signing a 36-year-old midget (5'10, lol basketball logic), I would think teams would prefer to take a flyer on some 20-year-old g-leaguer.

nice gesture for dallas to pay him though.

Might have to do with optics... that or taxes? Either way, JJ a Mav for life. Expect him to be helping as an assistant real soon.

Teams will look to the G-League or undrafted guys before wasting a roster spot on JJB.

He didn't play for Kentucky, so no thanks
