The Reds traded a king's ransom in prospect value in order to Go For It, got two awful seasons and a 31-29 year where they were bounced without winning a playoff game, and now are stripping parts to save money. Just a masterclass in asset management.

Philly's owner also reportedly gave them a mandate to cut spending because the team lost an enormous sum last season. Normally, it's when you reach that point that you fire Dombrowski.

Soon they will have a top three payroll and the thirtieth ranked farm system.

Sources confirm the New York Times report that the Cleveland Indians will be dropping their nickname. While it's unclear what they will replace it with, the Indians -- who have been called that for more than a century and nearly 17,000 games -- will be no more.

Keeping a single nickname for a century was pretty out of character for a franchise that, in its early days, went through six names in a span of barely two decades. So this is a nice retro move.

If you are looking for something both noble and indigenous to the area,, maybe consider The Iroquois.

I'd go with the Cleveland Spiders. They were the first major league team in Cleveland, and one of the longest-serving of the defunct teams. There's also plenty of precedent for rebranding later franchises in such a fashion: the current Baltimore Orioles franchise is actually the third iteration, after two previous versions folded (and in a twist, the current Baltimore Orioles were the St. Louis Browns, a franchise which itself was resurrected). They were also Cy Young's first landing spot in the majors.

That too. Baseball should work like sumo: if you get to the top level you need to adopt a new name...one consisting of a random adjective, noun or Pokemon species and an exceedingly English/Irish surname. You like Bo Bichette now, but you'll really love him as Squirtle O'Higgins.
