Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
Okafor was never the same player after his knee injury and his defense was much worse then advertised but the potential was there to turn into a dominant inside scorer and good rebounder.
The real miss wasn't Okafor it was Porzingis but remember Porzingis refused to show up to interviews and threatened to stay in europe if we drafted him. I don't know if had he came in for a workout and was receptive whether Okafor would still have been the pick. Someone should ask that question of Hinkie he'd probably give you a honest answer.

Nah he’d just go into some Silicon Valley spiel about how it’s impossible to predict how he would react not having all relevant data points and so on.

I just don't think Okafor really makes sense in terms of how Hinkie drafted to that point:
Noel, MCW, Grant, McDaniels, Embiid, Saric, Micic, TLC, Furkan, JP Tokoto, Richaun Holmes, Hernangomez, Gudaitis, etc
The American college players are all athletic, defensive focused players. The rest are Euro picks that were mostly stashes.
Okafor doesn't really fit in his mold. I'm willing to believe that he did make that pick, but I can completely understand believing the conspiracy theories behind him not making the pick.
Sure, it's possible they are both true.
I don't think Sam outright planned to select Okafor for months leading up to the draft. I do think he panicked and took him, though. Saric proves that Hinkie was willing to take unathletic defensive zero in the lotto, regardless if he's domestic or international.
I think Saric shows that Hinkie is willing to punt on euro picks like he did with almost every other non-athletic, which, once again, shows he was pretty binary on his prospects: eurostash or hyper defensive athlete.

Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
Props to dude for mentioning Grant Riller and Tyrese Maxey. Great picks. You know what is an indefensible omission, though? Devon Dotson. Dotson was by far, the best finisher in the class IMO.
For reference:
Dotson: 50.4% of FGA occurred at the rim, 18.1% assisted, 64.8% finishing rate
Maxey: 31.1% of FGA occurred at the rim, 16.9% assisted, 65.1% finishing rate
Riller: 34.9% of FGA occurred at the rim. 13.4% assisted, 70.4% finishing rate
Maxey and Riller got their slightly less assisted and finished with higher percentages, but look at the sheer volume Dotson got to the rim. He's by far the most aggressive attacker of the three and still finished with a great rate. Dotson is a dynamo.

I think Dotson is different than Maxey and Riller. Maxey is a great Finisher because he has top of the scale body control and coordination. Dotson gets to the rim because he has superior speed and burst, and college guys can't stay with him. With Maxey and Riller, it doesn't matter if the defender stays with them, their craftiness and coordination allows them to finish anyway.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

That's an undisputed fact. Because I said so.
I appreciate your contribution to alternative fact day, but I thought the non-cannon myth was that Harris blocked Hinkie from moving Okafor on draft night following Jah's rookie year?
Hinkie was outright giddy during the "violence at the rim" presser. It's hard to fake that.
Couldn't both be true? I also don't think the GM is going to be unenthusiastic about his pick at #3.

Hinkie didn't draft TLC or Furkan. Hinkie made enough bad picks on his own, without assigning him part of Colangelo's idiocy.

I still think Dodson's degree of difficulty was higher given his sheer volume of attacking and at about 20 pounds smaller than those guys. Guys like Dotson are not supposed to be able to finish among trees at that high a rate. And they sure as hell aren't supposed to be able to get to the rim that amount of times.

I revisited this post an hour ago thinking that I erroneously put those two in there and wanted to edit it, but I missed them on second glance.

We get to see some Dotson in about 10 minutes. I'm excited for everyone to say "wait, why wasn't this guy drafted, hurr durr?".

Dotson coming from Kansas with his steal rate and getting inserted into my Bulls defense (Lavine!) is a great fit for him. That defensive system is built for aggressive takeway guys like him.

Obi Toppin with 9 points in 9 minutes. Are you ready for the NY hype storm?

I'm so excited to watch Boogie and John Wall play together. They are so past their prime, but it's fun for me.

Zach Lavine with 2 blocks in the first 5 minutes. I'm going to demand an apology from quite a few people in that thread by the end of this season.

Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
Elfrid Payton looks really good out there. I would love to have a G like him coming off our bench and even providing the occasional spot start. I wonder if we can flip Mike Scott for him at the deadline. The Knicks love PFs.

Coby is a bad point guard. Makes a lot of bonehead plays. Maybe he's just playing lazy in the preseason. Good off ball shooter from what I've seen thus far.

What the heck happened to Fultz’s shot? That form looks terrible.
