Re: Cap space
That Houston pick is
1) not “INSANELY” protected
And
2) will be a future 1st rounder. Only question is, will it be in 2026 or 2027??

Much rather add McGruder to the Dedmon stretch (Stretchy) and take a flyer on another kid.
Could have just waived Bradley instead of acquiring the kid in the first place. At least then you can claim #38 was the reason for that trade.

See, I’m just happy Stretchy gets paid a little less now. Neither player meant anything to me.
Seriously, Stretchy is low- key the worst free agent signing of the offseason.
At least Mason takes away a cap roster slot hold!

He took young guys like Kennard, Wood, Bradley, Bruce Brown, Smith, Dedmon, Patton, and 5 future picks and turned them into:
Grant, Plumlee, Okafor, McGruder, Ellington, and Jackson.
This might actually be our worst off-season that I can remember. Just a failure I’m so many levels.
We got worse in these areas:
Talent-wise
Cap-wise
Youth-wise
Future draft pick-wise
You forgot Saddiq Bey, Isiah Stewart and Saben Lee.
Easy to make it look terrible when you don't add in the key ingredients lol

Again with this "5 future picks" thing....4 OF THOSE ARE 2ND ROUNDERS AND THE OTHER IS AN INSANELY PROTECTED 1ST THAT WILL BECOME A 2ND.
Focus on the rookies and the draft picks to come. This is all about Emoni

There’s no agenda. Just pointing out how terrible this off-season has been.....
I left out the draft picks because what we did trade/FA wise had little to do with the draft.
We clearly valued hard-working vets over youth.
Which we will make totally obvious when we play all the vets over the youth once games start.
At which time, many in here will continue to make excuses for Weaver and Casey.

When chances are that the pick won't be transferred until 6-7 years from now, it is insanely protected.
Weaver made a lot of questionable moves and some were just straight up idiotic (stretches) but the original Ariza trade was perfectly fine.

Looks like Smith was only stretched over 3 seasons, not 5. Waiting for clarification on why that is since next year should have counted as year remaining even as a team option, but alas:

It’s because the team option wasn’t picked up. Making zhaire an expiring contract.

Ah, yeah. That would do it. Didn't realize that had happened.

Re: Cap space
So basically McGruder vs Musa for 15th roster spot, barring any more trades. I'm thinking Sirvydis got what ever money was left from the $9,234,723 after Plumlee signed. I don't think he got second rounder pick slot money given he signed a three year deal (third year a TO).
Second 2-way battle between Lou King, Lamb and Hands, or Pistons could sign somebody from another team.

It looks like the third year of Plumlee's contract is not fully guaranteed. The amount that is guaranteed is unknown at this point though. Jackson received the full amount of the room exception. Since Ellington signed a 1-year deal for the minimum only a portion of his contract counts against the cap. Okafor signed for two years so the full amount of the minimum counts for his deal. Sirvydis also has a minimum contract with the third year not guaranteed.

so Musa or McGruder will be getting cut?
I have to assume its Musa, considering they did an introduction press conference/zoom call for McGruder already, and we heard nothing at all about Musa

It's great news for us if its true that Plumlee's 3rd year isn't fully guaranteed. It's likely a scenario where if he is waived by a certain date only $1 million or so is guaranteed in that third year.

Re: Cap space
According to Spotrac every $ of his salary is guaranteed. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/detroit-pistons/mason-plumlee-13335/
Might have to get a Pistons beat writer to see if they can inquire as to whether or not his 3rd year is guaranteed. Because nothing was reported otherwise I'd say its very likely the 3rd year is fully guaranteed.
