Looks like NBA player. But just give him 2 years in Bulls uniform and he will be ready to go back to G-league. Either way he looks like he is poised vet. Which is actually scary not because that's compliment to him, but how others look like. Most of teammates which played on his team dont belong in league.

If the Bulls can get an additional PG that does well in driving and kicking, it will benefit the fundamental tools of a guy like Pat since he knows how to move off ball or find spaces to dribble to for a midrange shot.

Hopefully, he can show confidence in playmaking himself
and hitting the deep ball, which will open up his game more.

Quick Patrick thoughts:

1. First elite athlete we’ve drafted since Jimmy, where you can tell he has a size, power and speed advantage over most the league. GarPax have been drafting guys fit for the Euroleague, not NBA playoffs. Even Hutchison, he’s at best a Danny Green type (and he’ll never dream of shooting as well). Looked like a rag doll compared to Daniel House and even Nwaba.

2. He’s not gonna cross-over wings and guards and get to the rim; at least, not yet. But the shot-off-dribble and post is butter.

3. Which leads to... we need to be patient. I don’t mind him coming off the bench. I can see him starting sooner or later, cause he is the best all-around talent on the team. But he needs to develop. Thank god he’s in Donovan’s hands.

Just to add another point... playing with starters would be worse for PW’s development, because those guys have not figured out how to play on either end. Atleast with the 2nd unit, he can handle the rock more and focus on solid team defense with guys like Hutch, Sato, Thad (when back) and Gafford. The starting line-up is a cluster****, but I’d rather keep them all together so that nobody points fingers or does anybody else’s blue-collar work.

Jimmys nowhere elite. Rose is. cross over and not defending perimeter is overblown. this guy has a mans body and all muscle with kawhi lite jumper. total stud unlike Butler who had to work other aspects bc his jumper sucked.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

I think he looks taller than 6'8" and definitely plays taller. This dude has a prototypical basketball body.

Given his handle (which is better than I thought), I think he needs to look at video of early LBJ on how to use his strength to get to rim on drives in the half court. I call it the freight train move. His outside shot will help him with this, as young LBJ didn't have that.

Yes. Euro step helps with the freight train move too.

BillyD mentioned he liked that we shot more FTs lastnight.

Completely disagree. The first thought I had when i saw him on the court was "He looks a bit smaller than I thought - he clearly looks like a wing".

Oh, he looks like a wing for sure. But he seemed taller and longer than the 6'8"/6'11" he's billed as. He looks mid 00's Lebron sized. And he gets elevation on his jumper.

Good to hear that PW looks like a keeper. It's going to be a long process rebuilding the roster, but you start with one piece at a time. Hopefully we have one or two other guys on the roster who can be keepers as well. It's going to take time though. And there's likely to be a lot of losing in the meantime.

I'd hope a #4 pick has less to work on than a #30, but you're entirely wrong when you say "Jimmy's nowhere elite." His lateral movement and strength were very elite for a SG. He was one of the best perimeter lock-down defenders I'd ever seen, in the few chances he got early on.

Anyway, I'm loving PW, but it is foolish setting "total stud" expectations for a rookie after 1 pre-season game, coming off the bench playing against HOU scrubs. He has Kawhi's potential, but Kawhi developed for 4 years before making the ASG, and he patiently developed on the Spurs in the most perfect environment, and of course he hit the ceiling. There are many reasons why stars hit their ceilings, and they're not always logical nor to be expected.

PW's cross-over and perimeter defending are not being overblown. They looked like issues against HOU scrubs. It can probably be fixed, but why set yourself up for disappointment? We haven't even scratched the surface of his flaws. On the other hand, his body and shooting touch are definitely elite for a rookie debut, and his pros totally outweigh the cons. I'm on the all-star trajectory train. Just not sure if it's sooner or later. In the meantime, I definitely think he can kill in PF/big-switch match-ups.

Around the NBA, the Knicks Obi Toppin had 11 points as the best of the other lottery standouts while Killian Hayes had five points and seven turnovers and Tyrese Haliburton had five points

Exactly what Luka, Lebron, Jimmy and Kawhi do.

His handle isn’t anywhere close to that.

I think that you are underestimate Euroleague. Hard for me to imagine that Felicio,Kornet,Arcidiacono,Mokoka,Valentine,HYutch would play for any of best Euroleague teams. Lot of players from Euroleague would have starting job or rotational minutes like Mirotic,Larkin,Calathes,Tavares,James,Clyburn. Paul Zipser had bigger role in Bulls then in Euroleague last season. I hate most draft picks of pre number 7 pick era like Valentine,Snell, Portis,J.Grant,Mcdermott and even Carter. I wanted Shai that year, Porter was new Kd but i thought his career was pretty much done because back injury.

I wrote up some of my thoughts on PatWill for those interested. Warning: It gets into the very nitty gritty of his game. Covers every noteworthy play he was involved in from the first preseason game: https://stephnoh.substack.com/p/what-i-learned-from-patrick-williams
