Malachi Flynn

Post#1 » by nabbs » Sun Dec 13, 2020 2:28 am

Well as advertised, the most NBA ready player in this draft.

He didnt have a ton of PnR possessions but he shot it well, made the right rotations, competed and made some good passes.

The backcourt of the future is set with Flynn and TD (as long as we keep him)

0 turnovers. Always a good sign of a player in control.

He made a quick first pass to initiate the offense, which I love to see from a PG. There was lots of motion to the offense when he was on the court.

Did not look like a 29th pick out there tonight.
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

He had really good chemistry with Thomas who I'm expecting to take a huge leap this year. A potentially killer bench combo.

Watching his highlights he looked as advertised. Scouts are way too obsessed looking for athletic tall point guards when guys like Flynn can do it all.

Notes from todays game;

- Really good floor vision. Made the safe and smart pass. Didn't rush anything or try to show off, super mature and steady.
- Has a pretty damn good 3 point shot.
- Very defensively aware. Opposition beat him by sheer speed, but he still funneled the defender into our center (scheme) while and cut off passing angles.
- Seems like he has some pretty decent handles too.

Man, I really can't praise our drafting enough.

I made this comparison in his draft thread based on his college highlights and after seeing him at this level he still kind of reminds me of a mini Steph Curry. Like a more defensive-minded, not as deadly shooting Steph. The way he moves is just so efficient. He just knows where to be at the right time and he moves with a purpose. Him and Thomas are going to be a deadly backcourt off the bench. They might have a little mini splash bros type chemistry this season.

I love the play where he was leading the break, drove to the rim and then passed around the body of his defender to someone in the corner (Thomas?) because you can see how intelligent that was. He managed to draw all the defenders to him and knew where to pass to even though I'm not sure he could actually see our guy in the corner. The 3 was missed but it was impressive from Flynn
