The Lakers paid $2.2 million to Orlando last night for the No. 46 pick they used on Talen Horton-Tucker, league sources tell ESPN. The Lakers’ $5.6 million cash considerations budget will be reset on July 1 for 2019-20.
Orland did not need a 3rd string SG last year.
Is Horton-Tucker better than Bacon? I cannot see why anyone is "laughing".
..
Maybe because he put up more points in one game than both our rookies combined in two?

preseason is irrelevant basketball really.
Also nba is all about roles and what's your purpose.
That Tucker guy will still struggle to find spot in Lakers roter and even if he does, he'll still be catch&shoot guy. Because that's how basketball nowdays works.
You are either:
rim protector/rim runner/ screener
ballhandler
shooter
That's kind a it.
There are very, very few nba players who's skillset is such an anomaly that it's worth changing whole scheme for. It's Jokic, Davis, Giannis , complete outliners who re-define roles set by basketball standards.
If you track Monk's career he is best example why few games, even regular season games, really don't mean all that much. For Clifford he kind a never played much, but one time clifford gave him lot of time, guy scored 25 points against Bucks, including 16 straight points in 4th quater.
Everybody was up in arms to proclaim new star and ready to burn Clifford alive for not playing him. Fast forward 2 years later, Monk is still marginal nba player.
I remember when Corey Brewer was dropping 50, Jennings dropping 50 in rookie year ,in week two of nba or Terrence Ross going bananas , scoring 51. It's nba . Especially with 3 point era, it's not so uncommon that some guard just catches pure fire for one night.
