"Summer league"

Summer league is for hot takes on players
Preseason is usually hot takes on teams

Preseason play usually follows in regular season unless the offense has no continuity for the player. I think that happens here, THT won't be given the ball like this to run the team like LeBron or Schroeder. He will get some burn but I doubt it's enough for him to push for an MIP awards.

I think THTs performance is replicable in season but not sure he gets the opportunity this season

THT played in the playoffs. Not many rookies play in LeBron’s Championship teams. Lakers are serious about giving and letting THT earn his minutes.

There is a big difference between Summer League and Pre-season. I’ve never seen a Summer League with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George or Serge Ibaka on the court.

Yup and the Clippers were pissed after the loss on Friday. They were putting on full court pressure on Lakers pg. They came hard at the Lakers today.

It’s funny, the next argument will be “Kawhi and PG weren’t really trying”. As if an Uber competitive All-Star is just ok with getting schooled by a 20 year old. I don’t care if it’s the Beyview Middle School Gym, Kawhi Leonard or Paul George are not ok with a 20 year dropping 18 in a half on them. If they were, they wouldn’t be the players they are.

Body and composure of a vet!!

Loved how he bumped Kennard like a boy then went for a layup. He is fearless attacking the rim and is smart enough to get a good assist.

Love how unafraid he is of guys like pg and Kawhi.

Idk about PG but Kawhi wasn't definitely trying anything. Not on THT, on offense or at anything actually.

He was there with a Clippers jersey. Period. LOL

PG was diving for loose balls. As for Kawhi, he always looks like that but the Clippers were attacking.

The youngest American ever to win an NBA championship. Although he didn’t play in the finals, but hey it still counts

Let’s get real...this is why other teams fan bases hate the Lakers. Wizards fans would love to talk about Avdija and Kings fans Halliburton...but the Lakers get a post currently on 9 pages about last years 2nd round pick

What did Avd or Hali do?

Did they do this to Kawhi?

Edit: Avd had a near perfect game scoring without a miss. But not enough shots and still lost to Brooklyn. Not sure how he did on D. Hard to compare him against THT tonight, no?

He will be solid for sure. It's fun watching him play because his body type is so jarringly different from other players. Reminds me of Graveler.

Caruso’s defense and IQ on the court will keep him in the rotation. He’s a lock for 20 minutes a night.

I do think THT will play if he’s one of the 10 best guys in the regular season. Wesley Matthews better not miss too many shots, that’s all I’m saying. If he goes through Danny Green type slumps this year he may get removed from the rotation completely.

Wes is a stop gap guy. He is something like 34. He will get 1-2 years then THT or Caruso will take his job. Wes is solid but he is a vet min 3&D guy who is a bit too small to guard bigger wings like PG or Kawhi.

I know this is baptism by fire but I can honestly see the Lakers using THT against guys like Kawhi by the end of this year or next year.

Wes is a stop gap guy, agree 100%. The Lakers don’t really have anything invested into him. So if these young guys are outplaying him then he will sit. It’s not like they are paying him 15 million like they were DG.

Mathews is a knock down catch and shoot player who can defend. With LeBron and AD as the main guys, shooting will be needed.

There will be a place for Mathews in this rotation (folks can term him whatever they like).
Don't believe the hype...

Another quality find by the Lakers top notch draft scouting staff. But of course "Lebron is the only reason the FO does anything good" so no one will give the Pelinkanator his due.

Exactly. What surprised me most was that if you look back on our biggest draft “successes” with our current scouting department, all the players were 2nd, 3rd or 4th year players who were ready to contribute right away.

THT was an 18 year old Freshman when they traded for him on draft night which was kind of odd as the team had just traded for AD and had championship aspirations. You would think of all the years, they would target a more mature and experienced player to contribute immediately. They must have really saw something different with him.

There’s also the Rich Paul and Klutch connection, as he signed with them right when he entered the draft, along with the Chicago connection with him and AD. Either way, I’m pleasantly surprised and I hope he gets a role this season and continues to gain experience. Cautiously optimistic that we got a good one hopefully

Lakers fans are super excited about THT, more than Caruso. THT was a late 2nd round pick last year and he was fantastic last season in South Bay.

That's your own opinion. I dunno about it, but everyone is entitled to one. No matter what, Caruso and MAYBE THT will be two rarities for LA as guys they drafted or picked up and then worked with them til they became viable rotation players (maybe for THT). THT is only 20, so just because he had a good preseason performance doesn't mean he's instantly a 2nd unit guy who gets regular minutes. I wish he could usurp some of Kuzma's minutes, but I doubt he will this year. People are getting ahead of themselves as they usually do. Vogel is the guy who determines THT's role and mpg. That's what people are forgetting as they wow! at Talen. He's got some moves and a great wingspan and big hands and he's even-keeled and doesn't make a lot of mistakes, which is good for a 20 yr old who was the 46th pick. He's got potential, but it'll probably take awhile for him to work his way into the regular rotation like Caruso did. Caruso took time, too. This is a championship team, too. If it were a lotto team, he would get way more minutes, but it is what it is.

He's not greatly explosive athletically. Might be why he didn't wow enough teams to vote for him. Garish jumping ability is overrated by itself. Talen kinda has an Andre Miller like savvy scoring style. Changes speeds from quick to stop to slow depending on what's there. He IS very good at letting the game come to him considering he's 20. Dre Miller was still an effective player as a corpse, btw, so so much for athleticism.
