I could not stand Pierce's lineups/rotations last season. Lessons are for the practice court or a quick in game hook that does not last all night. The game day court is for playing your best five and trying to win a damn game.
I really hope he takes a chill pill on the mad scientist routine during the regular season.
You're speculating way too much here, buzzo. Lamian Jones started because they had no other live body to pencil into the lineup. Len proved himself incapable. It's that simple. Not some experimentation or anything more than that.

If Dallas was knocking on the door of a title this would've been unfortunate for them, but they're not (yet) and they're core is young so no harm done. Miami is a little more tbd depending on how you feel about their title odds, personally I don't feel great about them so I also don't think it's a big deal even though Jimmy and Goran are getting up there in ageTexas Chuck wrote:RipPizzaGuy wrote:Side news - Toronto, Mavs, Heat all tried to maintain flexibility for next summer which now doesn't look all that great. Wonder if we see them start to make some bigger trades now.
Moved this here so as to not distract from what should be a Bucks celebration thread, but you bring up obviously an important point as to how it impacted the 3 teams who have been transparent for 2 years what their plan was.
I actually don't know that those teams missed out on much. Toronto might could have kept one or both of Ibaka/Gasol if they were willing to extend long-term deals, but while they will miss them this year with Baynes/Len instead I don't think long-term that's a big loss.
Miami and Dallas missed out on Gallo I guess as we know both teams have had interest. But while I really like Gallo's offense I don't know that its a huge loss.
And I think Miami will explore Harden but otherwise keep their cap next year and chase Kawhi. Dallas, I expect Donnie to get very aggressive by the deadline and look to take on salary in an attempt to upgrade as has long been Dallas' MO. Toronto is a tougher read, but I have tons of faith in Masai.
This was a massive blow to all three franchises, but all very well run with Masai and Riley at the very top of the game and Donnie on that next tier down. I'm sure they have all been working on what's the plan if he signs the supermax.

I mean is Dallas a Giannis away from competing for titles? I would say absolutely they are. So it's definitely a blow in that he was the path to move from fun little team to immediate championship contender. Now they have to put in the work and the lack of assets makes it tougher---of course if Luka really becomes an MVP-level player they will be fine.
But its definitely not no harm done. Luka/Giannis would be the best duo in the world immediately(I'm assuming some drop off for Lebron 2 seasons from now but maybe I shouldn't?).

Oh, definitely, I was just talking about opportunity cost of keeping their options open, it's not particularly large because they aren't a gallo away or something like that

This is a pretty big deal for moving forward a potential James Harden deal. I feel that the Miami HEAT are going to be substantially more likely to talk, with Giannis off of the table.

Len should have been the starter day one until he was traded. Bruno and Jones should have been the backups. LP made my blood pressure rise with everyone of the 27 Jones starts.

To be fair... I would say the top 14 playoff teams are a Giannis away from being a title contender
Dallas's future still looks very bright, there is zero reason to be disappointed by this.

Re: Free Agency, Rumors, Thoughts in General 2.0
I think it's fine for Dallas to be disappointed in not landing Giannis: they kept the decks clear for a shot at a transformational player and it didn't happen.
That said, they are a smart org and were probably pretty realistic about their chances; whatever moves they might have missed out on, were probably worth missing out on for even a longshot at someone as good as Antetokounmpo.
And as has been suggested, they are a ways away and this was not a make-or-break possibility. So, disappointing but not devastating!

Jones sucked to the depths of suckitude and he was more effective than Len.

I’m upset but not really. Getting Giannis was a pipe dream anyways. I’m just glad that he won’t be going to Miami. Also happy for Bucks fans.

2021 free agent class is now down to this top five in my opinion.
Leonard
Gobert
Jrue
Lowry
Oladipo
Hard to imagine but Drummond may get another great payday next season.

He doesnt fit their timeline, but Lowry would be a great fit for them. Oladipo has more upside and better age, but the tone that Lowry brings and playoff experience would be huge.
Adding Lowry and keeping THJ + Richardson would put them in a good spot IMO.
I think both Leonard and Holiday are nearly guaranteed to be back. Kawai loves Cali and Milwaukee will pay whatever necessary to not get egg on their face a single season after moving all that for Holiday.

I agree, Mavs should also pursue Draymond or Aaron Gordon at the trade deadline.

Re: Free Agency, Rumors, Thoughts in General 2.0
Lowry too old. And expensive. Need people we can sign fof 3 years wighout ghdm turning into horford.
Oladipo is done. Had like a year to come back after injury but still suck. Until he proves otherwise he got no value.
Gordon too highvalued by magic.
Draymond done. Sucked last year, will suck this year, and gsw will miss the playoffs. They look horrible.
Kawhi is weird. It really wouldng surprise me if he just opts out and leaves clippers. Jrue im pretty sure will resign.
Just put it like it is. "What can u get for powell?" Nothing? Fine, then sit til the moratorium and wait. Dont see anyone else getting moved. Well, maybe boban. Thj only if he says he idnt resigning or want too much, bug hope hd resigns

I really like this perspective and it shows how GM's think about the young cores. How many fans would pick the Celtics, Hawks, and Nuggets to be in a tie for 3rd in best young core.
https://www.nba.com/news/2020-21-gmsurvey
Which team has the most promising young core?
1. New Orleans Pelicans – 41%
2. Memphis Grizzlies – 22%
3. Atlanta Hawks – 11%
Boston Celtics – 11%
Denver Nuggets – 11%
6. Dallas Mavericks – 4%
> Last year: New Orleans – 28%

Just noting for anyone who missed it yesterday that March 25th is the trade deadline this year. In other words, our board's 2nd Christmas.
