https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-expects-immunized-100-million-143335710.html

U.S. expects to have immunized 100 million against COVID-19 by end of March -Slaoui

"...The United States expects to have immunized 100 million people with the coronavirus vaccine by the end of March, the chief adviser for the U.S. COVID-19 vaccine program said on Sunday.

...

For the United States to get "herd immunity," which would halt transmission of the deadly virus, the country would need to have immunized about 75% or 80% of the population, he said, adding that he hoped to reach that point between May and June."

If we can just make it through this winter, we should be out of the woods by late Spring. Even just having 100 million, a bit less than a third of the country, vaccinated by the end of March will be a massive achievement. We could have another 200K fatalities by then though.

I saw in the post game press conference Dotson, Kornet and Sato were all excused from the game tonight, did anyone see any reports on if it was Covid related. That's what it seemed like during the press conference.

Edit: KC Sort of has a story on it. Vonleh, Dotson, Kornet and Sato all missed the game.....possibility it's Covid related, apparently the team doesn't have to say.

If 4 players tested positive or were suspected to have Covid, I am surprised they even played the game tonight.

FWIW, you can get pulled for something less than having COVID or being suspected to have it. Simply having been in contact with someone who's had it, even if you don't actually believe the player contracted it, is enough.

This season sure is going to be a lot different from the bubble. It seems they're just going to power through, NFL-style.

The fact that four players were pulled makes the contact/suspect part of it less likely though. If it was one guy, sure, but four different guys all having a contact problem? Seems more likely we have real cases.

Granted, all speculation on my part there.

Agreed, but it could be one guy with a confirmed case and the others were in contact with him. But like you say, tough to tell.

Good point, though I would think the whole team is in close contact in practice anyway from a practical perspective.

Maybe this is part of the strategy, get covid on purpose before season, and get sort of immunity and anti bodies for approximatley 6 months, similar time table as end of regular season. I know some other bball teams in one league outside Nba did excatly that. For sure Vonleh,Sato,Dotson,Kornet are positive cases for now.

Whether it’s intentional or not they are all going to get it and it probably won’t take that long for it to happen. It’s basketball. There’s no bubble. They are young and wealthy. It’s going to tear through the league.

I almost wonder if a significant percentage of them have already had it. Its not like they have all been locked in vacuum sealed coffins for the last 10 months. Given their age and health, many of them could have it and not even realize it.

I’m going through it right now. 4/5 people in our household. Luckily it’s been mild/manageable.

Hey thanks.

I was pretty scared to catch it because of my smoking but it’s been ok on that front.

Hopefully we all come out of this as best as possible.

I've read the NBA estimates that over 40% of its players have had it already. We know for sure around 20% have been from the two times they did league wide testing (prebubble and preseason), and its fair to extrapolate how many others had it in the months in between is fairly significant too.

The league might have heard immunity by the all-star break.

~20% of the league tested positive in league tests which were only done at the bubble and league start up this year. The league estimates that 40% of the players have had it from something I heard on ESPN.

I have 3 teenagers in MAGA country California.......Facepalm.

It’s a miracle we dodged it this long. My 2 oldest kids hang out with all the same friends but only my son got sick, him and all his friends, my daughter on the other hand didn’t get sick and hasn’t gotten sick here at home with us either. She’s been our cook/gopher, kicking ass taking care of us.

Kids make great vectors. Funny how someone in a house full of sick people can not get it.

Yeah I hope she continues to avoid it.

One kid took out the whole group like 10-15 kids. The peripheral contact before that first positive result is what’s scary. I do give them credit in that they narrowed their social circle down to the same kids and avoided it for a long time.

All three of my kids came down with fevers this past weekend. My wife and I were a little congested. We all had to get tested. My test just came back negative so I assume the rest of the family will too as I am the only one to have left the house in the past 10- 12 days, so you would think I was the carrier. Crazy how you can still get sick even when you are wearing a mask all the time and no one is going out.
