Pat and Giannis obviously get along well being weight room bois. Is he part of the core? No. Is he a guy Giannis likes and trusts? I'd say signs point to yes.

I said the Holiday trade would be the worst in league history if Giannis did not resign.

Interesting, So Supermax was offered Dec 5th formally. Meaning it took 10 days to HATCH out all the details for the contract. So basically pretty straight-forward not much technicality/complexity as some have suggested.

Horst basically makes the Jrue trade without assurance from Giannis, that we know is FACT now. No Verbal was given as Jrue trade made on Nov 24th. Horst really mortgaged the future without assurance.

Pat, Brook, Midds, sit down...with Giannis for Dinner after his Birthday. So they have pretty decent influence on him.

Suppper interesting, but I think we can come to a couple conclusions.

1. Horst doesn't really care about future, he bet it on Giannis signing. No assurance. Re-iterates my point that self-interest always wins. Horst gets fired if Giannis doesn't sign, Jrue trade was a swing/gamble.
2. Supermax's aren't that complex, there was no hold up on FO. Giannis decides. Contract offered and wrapped up in 10 days.
3. Signing Pat looks ok now.
4. Bogi trade was a **** show, it definitely got shut down via tampering. Confirms the loose lips.

One thing is SUPER CLEAR from the article. WE MUST WIN. WIN AT ALL COST. No more give them a chance blah blah, Coaching staff and players included. Time to win is now. Giannis has made that clear.

Pat obviously has some sort of real estate deal going on with the owners and his little building company so he probably wants to be around in MKE for a few years to look after business. But I would've thought he'd be getting paid less because of it, not more???

Not shocking that Giannis wanted to thoroughly pore over the toughest decision of his life. And again, this organization is so so lucky Giannis is just built different. I mean how many lives do they get? Hopefully they can tighten the ship once and for all.

Honestly it's still a really good trade for them. There are two unprotected picks after Giannis could opt out, and even 2024 is a lifetime from now in NBA years. Assuming the Bucks would remain good for a while was built into their evaluation of the trade, which is we required so many distant-future picks in the first place, and anything that goes wrong - which still could be a lot of things between now and 2024, let alone 2027 - makes the trade a coup for them. Jrue is a 30-year-old borderline star with one year left on his deal; I'm pretty confident the Bucks' offer was great for them even if they assumed the chances of getting multiple good picks weren't that good. I really hope the Bucks find a way to get some good young talent and stay in the ~50 win range for the whole decade.

Giannis is guaranteed for:

20-21 (end of current contract)
21-22
22-23
23-24
24-25

25-26 is the player option

So the unprotected 2025 pick is likely going to be garbage barring injury as that falls after the 2024-25 season. Him signing really put a lot of the risk of the 2024 swap and the 2025 pick to bed. The 2026 swap and the 2027 unprotected could still bite us.

Yeah, I included the '26 pick swap as one of the unprotected picks. Maybe I shouldn't have, but in a scenario of Giannis leaving an unprotected swap could be nearly as bad as an outright unprotected pick, especially if the Zion/Ingram duo pans out and makes the NOP pick in the swap crappy.

In any case, my point is that I would have still gladly done this trade if I was NOP even if I had known Giannis would sign a 4+1 supermax deal. Taking that gamble is by far the best move for them IMO. Also, while it's unlikely the picks would be valuable before that, there are still realistic scenarios where they could be, so that has to be added to the calculus as well. I still have serious misgivings about the deal as a Bucks fan, but obviously it's not nearly as scary now that Giannis extended.

Do you guys know if Bucks ownership is committed to paying the luxury tax and repeater tax when the time comes? Curious how you manage the cap with Giannis/Midds/Jrue/Brook/Pat eating up ~125 million and going up every year.

I guess it makes sense if Giannis didn't want to be bothered by it, but sheesh giving yourself very limited time to make a decision.

They waited until he came back from Greece to make the formal offer in person. But it's not like everyone wasn't aware it was coming.

I still like the Jrue trade as long as he stays fit and healthy for 3-4 years. Cant expect that from 35 year old Chris Paul, and there wasn't really much else available. Oladipo looks banged up, what else was out there from the type of high usage guard we needed?
