Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
Just a general question. Are there any potential players on the last year of their contract who the Bucks can pick after getting bought out by their current teams around the trade deadline? These players will obviously be from potential lottery or 8th seed type teams. Would love to see a list upfront.

I don't know for sure but I think we'll have to salary dump someone like Wilson in order to be able to afford buyout candidates.

Wilson is untouchable.
On a more serious note, it shouldn't be hard to trade a Merrill or Nwora for a future 2nd-rounder if there's a vet min buyout candidate they really want. Would have to happen before the trade deadline though, and buyouts usually come after that - so the Bucks would have to do a deal like that without any guarantees that they would get a buyout candidate worth the trouble.

I think it's gonna be a weird year in terms of teams reshaping and that there will be a surprise available by the deadline.

I don't think we can even afford that if I remember Madden's cap breakdowns correctly lol.

If we struggle, I can see how making a Khris/CJ swap or something along those lines. Would be desperate AF and a move to shake up things.

I think Indiana eventually caves and lowers the price on Oladipo and we swap DDV for him and toss in a 2nd round pick or something along those lines. Just a hunch but with the Bogdan fiasco, I don’t put it past Horst to relentlessly go after another guy on the “Giannis list” that is potentially available on a team we already have trade connections with. If Oladipo starts off slow and shows any signs of not getting the minutes or volume he wants, I’d think the call gets made at the very least.

They can afford a buyout player, because they'd only be paying a prorated portion of the contract.

Yep I can see going for Oladipo too. Starts with DDV, but I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Yep. We will be able to sign a buyout guy

I'm pretty sure everyone knows it would be a very small prorated salary, but my understanding is that a hard cap is a hard cap. How do they get around that, even for a $900k deal?

We're hard capped, so you'd have to send out another $18 million in salary to make the deal. Not worth it to turn out roster upside down for Dipo.

Tony Parker is the only other player in the league to have experienced the same injury as Oladipo, and he said it was comparable to an Achilles tear.

Yeah I mean there’s reasons not to do that. I’m not necessarily advocating for that to happen but if there’s a will there’s a way and it’s a possibility in my personal opinion.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
Can any cap expert help me with this? Bucks' payroll is at $134,464,794 with 14 players under contract (Leuer and Sanders included) The hard cap is at $138,928,000. What's going on and Bucks have only 500K to spend?

I've been wondering this too. It might have something to do with using so much of the full MLE, but I could be wrong.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
Maybe this has been discussed recently but I’m not sure. I heard that the pick swaps we have with NOLA can still be traded?
Obviously they won’t be super valuable, but maybe it helps pull off a trade in the near future as a sweetener?

They can't make any trade that puts them at risk of being without a first-round pick in '24 or '26. They could theoretically swap whatever pick is left after NOP decides whether to exercise their right to swap, but that's all but meaningless. They could also acquire someone else's '24 or '26 pick in a different deal and then trade the rights to whichever pick they end up with in those years (their own or NOP's) but that also has lost a lot of appeal considering it will the lower of their own pick or NOP's (NOP could be really good by then, if not sooner).
