My concern with Conley for this season is the wear and tear of a compressed schedule. I would not rely on 30 minutes a night from him and I can easily see him missing 15-20 games this season between rest / covid / injury.

(I would think "covid" would be recognized by all spell check systems by this point)

I really hope Oni and Morgan/Brantley get more run early in the season for development and depth purposes. Last year, I thought Quinn stuck with his "core" guys too long in games they were either getting blown out in or blowing the other team out. Come injuries and playoffs, Jazz need to be a bit deeper. Other than that, I agree the on-paper team this year looks better than the last couple season's roll-outs. I think the Jazz sniff 3rd seed most of the season. Relative to last year's roster, just adding Favs and Clarkson to start the season will make for a tougher out, potential to get a roll on and some cushion heading to the closing frames.

Who plays backup PG though? Mitchell slides when Conley sits? Or either one of Ingles and Clarkson? Both are great in PnRs though and would be lethal with Favors

Ingles should be the de facto backup PG (with Mitchell, Clarkson or even Oni sliding to the 1 spot nominally) when Conley sits, at least as far as initiating the offense.

Joe and Conley haven't looked good when playing together so their minutes should probably be as staggered as possible. Ideally Joe should be transitioning to a bench role already, wonder if Quin will experiment again with that after last season's failure.

Donovan will handle the ball quite a bit but I'm not sold on him as a full time PG, I would like to always have at least another ball handler on the floor with him at all times.

Interesting that David Locke compared Jarrell Brantley's potential role and impact with the Jazz to Jae Crowder -- an athletic, tough, big wing who shoots 34% from 3pt.

Here's some Miye Oni footage from a scrimmage:

He's learning some of those off-leg finishess with extension from Mitchell ... Also nice poster on Rui

On a side note - Yuta Watanabe actually looks good...

I think he could be better.
Ingles is cooked.

I can see the lineups going something along the lines of:

Starters:
MC, DM, RO, BB, RG

After a few minutes to halfway through the 1Q, MC goes out, DM running show (to extent that happens in the system), and either Ingles or Favors comes in, as a 6th man, depending on matchup/circumstances.

When it is time to rest the starters, MC comes back in with Clarkson, Ingles and Favors both in and either Niang or Shaq. This lineup is a huge upgrade from last season's bench unit.

That would be the 9 man rotation, with the other players playing garbage/spot minutes or injury coverage. Not sure if there'll be a GL this year, but if so, several of the remaining players would spend some time there, IMO.

Also surprised. Maybe Brantley has shown enough they want to convert him to a guaranteed contract? Or they could be bringing Korver back?

Brantley gets us to 14 players if they convert him from a two-way, and I assume we want to keep a spot open in case of covid. EDIT: per spot minutes at point guard, Oni is clearly capable, and Harrison can play there, too.

Why? He showed absolutely no improvement from last year..... There was nothing he did on the court that suggested he would be in any way a useful player.....

Gotta be to keep a roster spot open. I think NWG can stick in the league elsewhere as a backup PG, but realistically the Jazz aren't exactly light on guys who can handle and dish the ball at the moment

I'm only surprise NWG got let go because the team is thin at PG. Skills-wise, there's no reason to keep him. I like how Forrest looks in the limited time I've seen him. Perhaps he'll be the emergency/G-League call-up PG, since he's a 2-way contract. A bigger and longer player at that spot is a nice change.

It's no mystery that I like Brantley, but he continues to be one the the last guys off the bench, even in pre-season. Not sure why, but I assume there's a good reason we aren't privy to. Hoping to see him get extended minutes against the Clippers regular rotation in Thursday's game. I loved his D in the bubble against DeRozan, and would like to see him buckle down on George & Kawhi for a bit.

In a limited look, I also think Forrest might be an upgrade over NGW defensively as an emergency PG. He looks like he has a great motor. In general, don't really see a "wasted" roster spot on this year's edition - very intriguing set of new young guys.

Jazz are signing Cincinnati forward Tre Scott to a camp deal. Scott is a 6'8" / 225-lb forward who graduated last spring.

He seems to have defensive potential as a long wing. If he can develop into a decent 3pt shooter then he could have potential.

His play has looked good but when he made couple comments that were pretty racist I didn't think he'd last. When will people learn?
