That’s why I had him pegged as our best bet at starting since we drafted him. The kid can play defense, is an insane shooter, a gym rat and a student of the game .
The threat of his shot opens up so many things.
Hopefully Thibs goes with the youth from now on, Fk Randle and Payton.
And I’m glad Knox showed what he can do with a legit point.

Agreed. There was one possession in particular that the Knicks were forcing players off the perimeter and help was coming if a player had a step on the defender. It was nice to see.

Yes but everything is predicated from the fact teams have to guard him out on the perimeter. They can't play zone with quickley on the floor so it opens up P&R opportunities that people sagging off you wouldn't allow.
Just the threat opens things up
Yeah its pretty clear if you're going to start RJ, Julius and one of Mitch or Noel you cant start Elf with them. Its not even Elfs fault because i dont think hes actually the sole reason we're bad hes just an awful fit there and hes the easiest to replace.
You specifically will hate me for this but Rivers should start with that group and Burks lol. Hes a good enough threat from deep to bust a zone. Either that or Quickley but id rather Quickley run with the rest of the young guys on the 2nd unit.
Yeah
Even for as much as I sh*t on him, when Elf was playing with the kids in the 2nd unit tonight, they all looked pretty good. Granted, they still looked good when Elf was swapped for Quickley, but still
I think especially if you're gonna start Randle and bring Obi off the bench, Elf would look much better as a backup cause the kid lineup doesn't really have playmaking or shot creating, which he brings, while the starters have RJ and Randle who are both shot creators, making Elf irrelevant. The problem is and has been that we really can't justify benching him on individual performance, cause statistically he is the "best" at PG. I had to switch to a Cavs stream towards the end of the game, and one of their guys said the problem with the Knicks is we have too many guys who want the ball and not enough shooters. So literally everyone else can see it except the people who make the decisions. It's maddening.

Quickley is not even a point guard and he looked better than all the pgs on the team.

Re: Knicks - Cavs PG
Tonight could be a big step on how to best use Knox. Same should be done to Obi. He got no role in the offense, he’s just roaming the perimeter and sometimes cuts or shoots 3s. Needs to figure out where and how he should be moving on O and develop some niche.
EDIT: He shows good skill and activity and selflessness (and passing) but right now he’s just not integrated into anything we do. Cmon Thibs.

He's been trying to tell people he can play on ball or off ball and he just got stuck playing off ball for Kentucky cause that's where Coach Cal put him. I say he deserves the chance to show if he can in the NBA and tonight showed that.

It's amazing that Randle can put together decent stats most games but completely fail the eye test. He put up an efficient 18 points tonight but still looked like hot garbage in real time.

Re: Knicks - Cavs PG
OT and I missed much of the first half, but Garland looked good for the Cavs in the 2nd half. Seems he had a rough start before I turned it on, but from what I saw he was very slick when penetrating; constantly looking for the open man on the perimeter; and was a threat from outside that we could not ignore.
If the lotto gods don't show us any love and we can pry him out of Cleveland using the Mavs picks; I'd be happy to watch our kids move forward with a Garland/Quickley PG partnership.

He's dribbling less. And his assists are up. I'd like to believe Thibs can effectively limit Randle's liabilities. But it's impssible to imagine a positive outcome with Payton/Randle featured as a duo.

Let him be the PG. He can shoot, defend and distribute. Isn't that what we should expect from a starting PG?

I’d rather they win 12 games with this final unit and having learning pains even if it means losing by 30 with players that will be here beyond this season than win 20 games with a whole bunch of losers that have no future here
Because I'm pretty sure in the NBA it's impossible to bench veterans. That has to be the only answer.. the minutes veterans get is reflective of how much money they're getting paid and what kind of media attention they draw locally and nationally. Seriously.. it has nothing to do with basketball.
Some of us keep saying it but people just wanna yell.
It’s contract obligations.
When players get paid a certain amount of money than other players...it is what it is.
Just gotta wait it out for the players to dip.
I don’t see the big deal in waiting we suck & we’re rebuilding. Randle, etc got one year left.
Takeover about to happen.
The big deal is that you don’t get this time back.
We suck, we have no expectations, it’s absolutely the best time to let the kids loose when W’s don’t matter.

It's because he's so ball dominant, for example last year he actually touched the ball more than Anthony Davis, Embiid, Donovan, Tatum, Adebayo.
For insight on just how much he and Payton have the ball, they actually had more touches per game than Conley and Mitchell

Re: Knicks - Cavs PG
so i really don't care who you're playing against, the poise IQ showed tonight as a rookie was really impressive. super active, and just had the look of a guy who knows how to run the show even if he isn't a traditional PG. yet another guy who would probably be great as a combo with frank.
