While offering 720p max video quality.

This is how you encourage piracy.

i feel like they encouraged privacy by blacking out games (i know it's because of deals with TV networks).

which is why i pay $100 to an illegal service for all games and no blackouts, and $0 to NBA LP.

if they changed their model they would have a lot more paying customers. i'd even be willing to give them a little bit more than what i pay right now.

Where would one find said service?

Did they add anything to LP to make up for this invasive advertisement on a paid subscription service? is it cheaper or higher quality than usual?

I wonder if this has anything to do with the NBA keeping its commitments to their broadcasters.

Ie there are less games in the season and less ads, throw some on our LP subs to make up what is lost in games so the broadcasters get to sell the same amount of advertisement time in a season.

Probably because no fans in the arena so they get more ad revenue from fans getting LP. If you don't like LP well it's 2020 and pretty much every major sporting event/league can be watched in HD from any device with a good connection.

People pay to watch games online? I thought we'd all figured that out by now.

It's such a ridiculous model. Pay to be advertised at. Like, if watching ads, to watch paid for in game advertisements, with ads running up and down the court, with branded uniforms, centered around a branded league, why does the free version have less of this?

Shame on them. This is ridiculous. They are probably losing more subscribers and this is a way for them to make up for it. How sad.

Well in the pandemic especially TV rights are the only thing giving the league revenue... pay if you can afford it and love the NBA. I get people pirating if they can't, but if you can you should try to chip in.

THIS 10000000000%

I only watch TV for sports and I refuse to pay $120+ month to Comcast to only watch the NBA. I've done it for years but this is the last year... no more. They need to make another LP for people to watch their team online w/ no blackouts. If it has to be expensive, just fricken offer the service! I'd pay probably more than they think. League pass itself isn't that pricey compared to Comcast, but I can't get the games I want.

Well there is. International league pass from NBA.com. Still same bad quality though.

Indeed. Unfortunately even International league pass added banner ads this year and makes a fuss if I don't turn off my ad blocker :nonono:

I'm trying to legitimately support the league but the amount of ads is just never enough. Ads between free throws, ads on the jerseys, ads on the court, ads above and beneath the (inferior) stream I pay for to watch the Hornets overseas...it never seems to be enough.

There should be a separate service for particular teams, but small market teams would bitch and complain.

Doesn't league pass offer team pass option as well? At least used to for almost half the total price.

I previously used a VPN to sign up through India or Brazil and paid $80 for the annual subscription. If I didn’t use a VPN, it was $320 for the same product.

I was happy to pay for ILP, but not at a rate that is 4x that of another country just because they can.

Now that the VPN sign up method is apparently no longer possible, I’m not going to pay for the product, especially when it has been cutting back in what it provides, the reliability and quality of stream has declined, and there’s no guarantees that you’ll get a credit if the season shuts down again.

The blackout policy in the NBA is in dire need of overhaul - if people want to watch games via a LP subscription, you have to now assume that a) they don’t have a cable subscription and/or b) don’t have any other way to watch the game.

The day for the need to implement blackouts came and went 10-15 years ago and it’s time for the league to get off its fat ass and set up a service that allows me to watch every single game I want, when I want.
