Domantas Sabonis

Post#1 » by Dnt hate » Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:38 am

I forgot how good he is, he is definitely a top 20 player in the league right now but he isn't voted into the top 25 by realgm which is strange.

I wouldn't put him in the top 20 but I'm impressed with his improvements off the bounce/ballhandling. Has already turned out better than I expected.

Super skilled and talented player. Was apparent from his first game at Gonzaga. Too bad he’s close to the limits of his ceiling because of his short wingspan.

I thought he was a bust when he was first drafted, turns out I was completely wrong...

All-star last year and is still underrated. If he was on a team like the Lakers or Knicks people wouldn't shut up about him. Hopefully the Pacers move Oladipo soon and give the keys to Sabonis.

Also credit to the Pacers front office for re-signing him for the deal they did. He would've easily gotten at least $120M if he had hit free agency this year. His agent kind of screwed him there.

That's because Billy Donovan didn't know how to use him. They tried to use him solely as a stretch-four. Shows how important it is for young players to get paired with the right coaching staff if they want to reach their true potential.

Domas is not a top 20 player.

He needs to have a consistent midrange shot and improve his three point shooting by a lot to become one.

Still - he’s a guy who is using his physical abilities to the max and minimizing his shortcomings the best he can.

Really - he should be an example how a person with somehow limited talent can become an allstar.

One of the guys who should be really respected because of how much he has improved and is improving.

And even when I say that I think that Sabas has reached his limits he always comes back improved and better and proves me wrong.

The sky is probably the limit when you really want something ...

I was worried that new coach might not use him inside the way McMillan did, but no, he is still just as dominant and used the right way.

I had this question right in my sleeve for a while, so I will ask it right here. Has NBA Domantas surpassed NBA Arvydas? Not taking account Arvydas' prime years in Europe, just basing out of their NBA careers.

Possibly by now. Definitely in a few years. Last year's raw numbers were better than Arvydas's best NBA year, and he was an All Star. Domas doesn't have the longevity or the playoff success his father had yet though.

Always loved him when I watched his highlights: great fundamentals, knows how to use his body to play smart. I imagine Arvydas touching his newborn's forehead with his illuminated index finger and passing him some of that smart material he got.

Good to see Domantas turning out good, his older brother was really bad and he retired an became coach at age 27 just last year. At a time I was not high on Domantas at all, lack of length, range, could only finish with his left hand, I didn't think he would be a bust per se, but I thought his ceiling was very limited, I didnt see this all star level of play in him at all.

I stated this before, but Domantas can really end up being second best Lithuanian baller in history, what means father and son would be best basketball players of a nation, and one of the better basketball nations on a planet no less, thats crazy.

Genetics is important.
Think to Spain for example: Marc and Pau are probably their two best players ever.

Domantas is not even nominated after the last poll, which means he was unofficially not even TOP35 here (I"m nominated him few times, so I remembered such detail).

There is 3 point-centers in NBA right now, Jokic, Adebayo, and Sabonis. Jokic who started this trend was also recognized first, while for young Adebayo value recognition is very helpful that he reached NBA final this year. So only Sabonis is still under the radar.

Point-centers are rare animals which always contribute better to their teams than their row numbers suggest.

Its also nurture, I mean Domantas is not a genetic freak, he is 6'10, but what makes him athletic is his worketic, he is in incredibly good shape and that understanding of the game, passing instincts, good looking shooting form, not many young kids have a hall of famer dad to play with and be coached by at home.

HE is one of the more underrated players in the league for sure. Another all-star appearance for him this year should help show that he isn't a one hit wonder. It's going to be harder with a healthy KD and a few other young players improving in the East but its certainly possible.

He is for sure top 30 in the league probably top 25. His impact on winning is greater than someone like Vucevic or Siakam. The Pacers finished 4th in the East last year and he was a huge reason why.

If you look at NBA players that put up at least 18 PPG, 10 RPG, and 5 APG its only him and Giannis.
