O/U Win Total - Pistons 23.5

Post#1 » by flow » Sat Dec 19, 2020 3:33 pm

This topic was being discussed in the 'around the league' thread when it was replaced the other day. Seems worthy of it's own thread, as the season starts a few days from now.

I'm taking the Under.

The Pistons were at 20 wins after 66 games last season. Does this team have more wins in it than last season's team? I think not.

23 would be awesome but I would take a slight over around 26-27 wins

If we stay healthy, play hard to compete for the 7/8/9/10 tournament, and don't trade away Rose/Blake we'll win more than 23 games for sure.

If we put the kids out there and let them learn as they go and trade off Rose and sit Blake on B2Bs I think we probably win about 20 games.

It all depends on the mindset of the franchise. Young guys look good enough that we could compete for that 9/10 seed and try to win and sneak into the playoffs but if that isn't the direction management and coaching wants to go then we may push down towards a top 5 pick.

I waffle back and fourth on this, but I think if I have to take a stand I need to go with the under.

We're just really dependent on inexperienced players and 2 guys who have a solid chance of getting hurt in Rose and Blake. Those things don't bode well for the tight schedule, no summer league, shortened training camp, etc that we've got going on this year.

Of course a surprise leap forward for one or two young guys or an unexpectedly solid season from Blake could change that, but I'm betting against both of those things here. And of course COVID is a HUGE curve ball here that makes everything inherently harder to predict- but I've left that out of my predictions entirely here.

I think 23.5 is a good line, but I'm taking the under.

I think we got too many vets that'll drag this team to a very slight over. And a mostly healthy Blake and Rose will net the team about 5+ wins alone against bad teams

I’ll take the over. I think we could be looking at the 28 to 35 win mark.

IF we stay relatively healthy and IF we don't trade rose or blake i think we'd hit the over. not by much, maybe 26-28 wins.

but if an "everything breaks right" scenario still only has us clearing the over by a bit i'd be much more inclined to take the under. example: based on the preseason, svi is the only above average shooter in our rotation (although he is damn good). if he gets injured for a significant stretch, an offense that is already struggling will lose it's only real shooting threat.

i think our defense will keep us competitive in more games than we should be in but ultimately our offense will have to claw and scrape to reach 100 points at the best of times and you just can't win many games like that.

I’m betting on under because if we’re over it means Blake is killing it which means he gets traded in March and that’ll make us under. If we’re under it’ll be because we’re load managing Rose and Blake. I personally would extend both of them to be honest. Give Rose the same contract and give Blake 15m a year or something. He won’t get another max that’s for sure

Definitely under for me. Seems Casey wants defense first which means our offense will suck. The only way we go over is through Blake, Rose and if one player becomes really good like Hayes or Jackson. They have full potential. I think Jackson is amazing btw.

I'll take the over.

The Pistons have picked up some solid pros who will keep them in games. Plumlee, Grant and Wright will never make an all-star team, and on a good team come off the bench, but they come from winning programs, play both ends, share the ball and help their teammates. Add that to Blake and Rose and we have too much grit to just fold. The rookie PG is raw, but I can see why they drafted him and he seems to play a team-first game, so he may not be as weak as most rookie PGs are.

The good news is that the solid pros will mean a better development environment for the young players. One of the hidden secrets to player development is having players who are good enough to mentor but not so good that they block a talented youngster from getting any minutes. Wright and Plumlee are perfect for this, and both Rose and Blake seems to be realistic about their careers and appear to embrace being mentors.

(If Washington can't work hard enough in practice to take some minutes from Plumlee he probably isn't ready anyway.)

The bad news is it hurts our lottery odds, but when you're drafting 19 year old kids I don't think that matters much.

I'm very surprised by all the over bets. Our schedule is quite brutal until trade deadline, I can't see us win 10 out of the 37 first games but I can be wrong. Then we can hope Weaver trades at least one out of Griffin and Rose at deadline and be worst for the last 35 games.
We'll see I guess.

After watching the first two games, I can’t see us winning more than 20 games. I think that the Pistons aren’t a bottom feeder but when it’s all said and done. We will have a record as one. The team with Blake and Rose isn’t bad enough to bottom out.

Under. Riding the vets will help us tank. Our bets are horrible except Rose. And Rose is most likely/easiest to deal.
