This is ugly basketball but it's getting interesting down the stretch.

I get Keldon Johnson vibes from him. Just so painfully mediocre imo.

I mean, at least Keldon was putting together good percentages. Boston is sub 50% from 2, sub 20% from 3. At least he's a good FT shooter. He 100% cannot run the offense. He is giving me Tobias Harris vibes as a parallel to the Sixers: Needs ball in hand to be effective but not good enough to elevate the team. There's no way in hell I'd draft him in the first right now.

This OSU/UCLA game should be fun to watch.

Justice Sueing and Duane Washington are NBA players.

Walker and Campbell are tiny guys that can ball and go at it.

I think Sueing should got lotto even though he's a 4 year player.

He's a 6'7" 215 pound guy that can defend and create off the dribble. He's worth his weight in gold.

Herb Jones feels like an intriguing 4 year player. Shooting pretty well so far, not sure if it's sustainable.

I think the biggest mismanagement by Calipari in recent memory is letting Hagans lose his **** last year and not convince him to come back. He could have been SEC POY + DPOY, played all the minutes, been either the leading scorer or second leading scorer and carried the team to a winning record. Instead he goes undrafted and plays like 6 minutes total in the preseason. Will probably be a G-League guy who could fade into obscurity because defense isn't valued there.

I don't know if he had an inflated view of what Askew was going to be or what, but he (and Mintz) aren't really ready for the PG role for this team.

Cal probably just wanted to rid himself of the headache that was Hagans. That kid apparently has some issues.

I feel like Mintz was a strong move from Cal. You don't agree?

Came here to ask about Boston actually. He's in everybody's top ten. Does not look impressive to me. Another Kentucky guard thing?

He was the 4th ranked highschool player in the nation so he's going to get the benefit of doubt.

Also, I'd imagine most people in the scouting community aren't watching and judging players on a game by game basis, and thus, are in no hurry to constantly update their rankings.

Right now, Boston looks bad. Doesn't look like a guy that can run an offense.

Louisville's David Johnson intrigues me.

There's a little Malcolm Brogdon to his game.

Huge 6'5" 210 pound G with borderline lead-guard distributing abilities. Also really nice at creating off the dribble in the mid-range. Has shown the ability to be a neutral-ish defender.

This guy is an NBA player.

Mintz has been one of the bright spots and plays solid defense, but he's not going to carry this team when Boston and Clarke aren't creating or when Sarr is in foul trouble.

There was likely a bit of desperation because aside from Askew, who is left to play PG? He really didn't think this through.

He was sold as a guy who has a great shot. Dude cannot hit a three. He has been a black hole when he gets the ball and forces some awful passes. He's had a rough start.

If I was Calipari, I would not have foresaw how much Boston and Clarke would struggle to score off the dribble. And no way would I expect, in conjunction with that, that my other 5 star freshman (Askew) would be one of the least productive players in the nation on a per-minute basis.

It's like a perfect storm of suck. The one silver lining for Kentucky right now is the transfers. Without Sarr driving post offense and Mintz doing what he's doing on both ends, Kentucky would be arguably the worst team in any big conference.

I truly hope these young guys play themselves into more competence as the season goes on, because this is unprecedented awful play for Kentucky.

I do think there's likely a COVID related issue with the slow start. Training camp started late and was shortened. A bunch of freshmen missed valuable time to prep for the next level. I get it, it's fine. However, we just left a season where we had 3 capable "PGs". We now have Mintz, who was one of three ball handlers at Creighton with Ballack and Alexander, and Askew who reclassified and seems like a game manager rather than playmaker.

I probably would have grabbed another lead guard out of HS or transfer rather than another PF, which we have like 5 that all do the same thing for some reason.

How much does Calipari even care about how successful his teams are? He seems to care more about appearing on the draft broadcast.

If you rely on one & dones it's going to be a crapshoot every year - first year college athletes are incredibly inconsistent in general and in a COVID-limited year it will be even worse

Really, if an extra year of college is your worst case scenario...things will probably be alright (unless Calipari has recruited over you and you have to transfer or go in the 2nd round)

Yikes. I noticed someone crying on the sideline at the end of the game. Didn't know Clarke bailed early. Frustrating times for Kentucky.

Yea, I mean, they are all kids that are losing in a high pressure situation. A lot of dudes on the bench are used to dominating the game in HS setting and so it's foreign to them to be helpless on the bench. I don't think the idea that Calipari has been wildly successful and has put a ton of blue chip recruits has crossed some of their minds.
