I think both McConnell and McDermott have positive value and so we can be patient knowing they can be moved later. My choice would be to do nothing until Lamb is fully in the rotation.

Puts roster at 15, and still about $600k OVER the luxury tax.

Not that it matters. Kelan is only half guaranteed, so we could always wait until the league wide guarantee date (February 27) and waive him then if nothing else presents itself, which would get us about $200k under the tax line. That would cut it pretty close if any of our guys hit another bonus.

My way too early prediction is that Kelan is on the roster longer than Doug.

It’s absolutely possible. At this point, I think if Sumner/Holiday prove out at the 1/2, and Lamb returns ok, I think McConnell will likely show to not be a great fit, and even though he’s a great clubhouse guy, I think Pritchard will look to move him later.

But Doug is also a guy that would have value in 29 teams around the league and would probably be an easy move if we chose to cut some costs at some point.

Both McConnell and McDermott are in their final contract year which should make them easy to move. I think Bjorkgren is going to find occasional minutes for almost everyone so by mid-February we'll have a much better idea what combinations work. Looking ahead a full year I can see them both gone and Stanley and our FRP taking their slots.

I'd rather have NML on the roster over Lecque though. Oh well

Pacers' salary situation feels a little odd

The team has a tax paying roster, but are not a contender yet, so the logical conclusion is it must be because the team is saddled with a bad contract or two

But when you scan the payroll, there isn't any standout bad contract and in a vacuum everyone looks reasonably paid (yes even Lamb when healthy, 12/4/2 off the bench at $10.5m is reasonable)

Maybe the Pacers should try min-maxing things a little more aggressively. Trade for a good but expensive player, even if he's a little overpaid, and then filling out the rest of the roster with bargain bin deals

Tony East did the math and spelled it all out here.

TLDR: we can waive Kelan by Feb 25 and stay under the tax

Bjorkgren says he won't start the same players every game and hasn't decided who starts game 1 even though Turner and Warren should both play.

Lecque is only guaranteed for this season $1.518 million, so he could be waived and stretched at $506K for 3 years correct? That would get them under the tax without cutting Martin. I don't like the Stretch but it is an option depending on who is playing well, and assuming some trade that cuts costs is not done.

The window to stretch waive is closed for this season. We cannot stretch this seasons cap number on him, or anyone.

Lot of really good points here. Looking for some simple things to key in on how the Pacers players are playing and how it might impact winning? Tony East really broke it down well here. Things like 3 Point Attempts for Myles and Doug, Effective field goal percentage for Brogdon, Free throw attempt rate for Sabonis, and more.

"The hard part is getting Turner to buy in to a perimeter-heavy role"

Didn't Myles actually said that he likes hanging out at the 3pt line, two seasons back or something? I remember reading something like that

I just remember when Domas was out (during the bubble time) Turner saying something about being happy to be back playing his natural or normal position. Made me think he was more comfortable at center.
