Even though the Hawks have a good history with Houston, I don't see Atlanta being involved. My best guess would be New York with their available cap space as a 3rd team.

I could see that, but it would be foolish IMO to dilute Harden's value by getting a under-the-cap team to take spare parts and assets for savings on HOU's end. Then again, their owner is cheap and heavily in the service industry so he must be hurting.

Simmons if the rumor is true and a healthy Wall would be a great set of cogs to a lock down perimeter defense. They would need a lot more to be super competitive, but those two are serious defenders paired together.

And what do the Mavs have that Houston wants?

They don’t have the pieces to trade for Harden straight up. That’s why I don’t think he’s their target. They are just trying to be part of the deal in order to obtain an asset or a player that could help them.

Right. I get Dallas doesn't have the assets for Harden plus he and Luka would just be wonky. But for Dallas to be a 3rd team that means they have to have something Houston wants. I'm struggling to see what that would be exactly other than potentially KP who I don't think is on the table.

I would think expiring contracts.

It may seem like an odd fit, but Lonzo Ball could be interesting w/ cap space. Age fits Luka's timeline, plays like a vet in terms of control and such, developing 3PT shooter with off ball experience, ideal 2nd facilitator to Luka, great multi positional defender.

Moving Powell + WCS + FRP + ??? for LMA then signing Ball could be interesting. Love the LMA fit as a handcuff to KP's injury issue and to keep Zinger around 24-26mpg during the RS before increasing to 30+ in the PO's.

G - Lonzo Ball / Trey Burke / Tyrell Terry
G - Josh Richardson / Tim Hardaway Jr / Josh Green
F - Luka Doncic / Tim Hardaway Jr / Josh Green
F - Dorian Finney-Smith / Maxi Kleber / James Johnson
C - Kristaps Porzingis / LaMarcus Aldridge / Boban Marjanovic

I like that a ton, not sure if the $$$ works though. Lots of defenders in the starging unit, nice bench scoring with good rim protectors off the bench. Insane amounts of 3PT shooting, good character guys all around. If you cant sign a clear cut #2 to Luka in 2021, and its getting less likely due to extensions and resignings (IE Jrue is def not getting out of MIL) then this type of offseason could set them up well moving forward. Get Ball, JRich, THJ on deals around 12-15M and your looking at alot of tradable contracts moving forward if a big fish comes avaliable, and a nice squad in the meantime that caters to Luka's strengths on offense (Shooters on kickouts) while alleviating his issues on defense.

Welp, Gobert is gone.

Mavs next target?

Trade might be the answer

How about Blake ..?
He's healthy now, and there's no one to chase, until FA 22 ... when Griffin expires. I would also be interested in J. Grant (when legal)

He definitely fits the team needs. I wouldn’t hate it.

Trade is definitely the best way to go. Griffen, Gordon, Markkanen, W. Carter? Which way would you go?

If they can't get a trade done, a overpay for someone like Lauri may be in order. His efficiency is average but he is the definition of a stretch four. He also fits their timeline pretty well.

I think he would be a much better player with Luka and in the Mavs offense than what we’ve seen from him in Chicago.

Griffin is probably the best fit but health issues would be my concern.

I think trading Porzingis for a more reliable player is a good choice too

Yeah they have a few. Porzingis, DFS, Kleber, Brunson and the rookies.

Id prefer a 4/60 for lonzo than overpaying Richardson, i think lonzo is a better player and fit as well as younger

Let me rephrase that. Any notable assets that can headline a deal for a star? And given the amount of money due to Porky and his injury history, I think you'd be hard pressed to get good value back on him.

I don’t think there is any way they are even considering trading KP. I also think JRich is also off the table. Everyone else though is up for grabs if it will improve the team. Personally I’d like to see them keep Maxi too.

Powell + Johnson + Green for Blake ..

Pistons obtains a prospect for rebuilding. That fits into his youthful core.
Hayes / Green / Bey / Doumboya / Stewart.

Johnson expiring, contract easier to move than Blake. Powell excellent mentor for youth.

Mavs gets Blake, .. it's a risk, but he doesn't lose much anyway..Green doesn't get the minutes to develop in Dallas (in my opinion) ...
yes, they are healthy ..
Luka
JRich / TH
Dfs / TH
Blake / Maxi
KP / Blake ... is a legitimate contender ..

I would think Blake is available for free right now. If Dallas offered to save Detroit 70~ million dollars.. they should just say thank you.

And id pass for Dallas

Porky might be the stupidest slander at KP I've ever heard. He's literally the opposite.

And no the Mavs have no assets to headline a deal for a true star in his prime. So obviously you target good players who are overpaid on teams looking to reset. It's what Dallas has done historically.

As every FA except Dipo has been realistically taken off...

I don’t like this for Dallas but if we are talking Aaron Gordon and Blake Griffin.. Has anyone thrown out about Buddy and Barnes? Some spacing and shot creation. Can work around the PPP since salaries are so high there. Lots of ways.

I think Chuck will be joining me in the Dipo line soon though.
