I predicted that Haskins would get his chance again a few weeks ago. Here it is. If he has a good game, I truly believe he'll be the starter again. He controls his own destiny.

Man. I sure hope so, but I’m not optimistic.
Look at how much better our offense runs with either Smith or Allen in there. It’s about getting into the right plays, calling audibles for blocking assignments and making the right throws.
You can be an average game manager if you are mobile. In today’s NFL, it’s hard to succeed with just arm talent.

Agreed...Dwayne has no command of an offense right now. I don't see him succeeding, but at least this will shut the people up who said Rivera was wrong for benching him when that was the obvious decision.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
So, Dallas was the only team in the division that won, and they're behind us and would lose a tie-breaker to us, anyway. All we need to do is beat a 4-10 team and a 4-9-1 team to win the NFC East... with an 8-8 record. I guess that's a good thing. Not really.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
An 8-8 record is better than I expected this team would achieve in a developmental year. If they can manage 2 wins and make the playoffs this year that's a significant credit to the new regime. I said when he was drafted I figured Haskins would struggle since he had wayyy too much time in the pocket in college, and would never see that kind of cushion at the next level. This team never has a dominant offensive line under Snyder. That has been our flaw in developing QBs since way back. If you drop a young cat behind a piecemeal line then you will get him crunched and he will develop bad habits out of fear, lost confidence, or he will get injured. SInce we dominate on defense then it makes sense we are 50/50 at best in our record at the end of the year.
That said if they get into the playoffs that will help young players get a taste of winning and success. First you win then you get good. That taste is a motivator for next year.

Haskins has played the tougher teams and he is doing so without Antonio Gibson. I thought he performed well enough to beat Seattle. Morgan Moses reinserted himself into the game and that’s when Seattle’s pass rush sacked Haskins three straight plays.
The one thing for sure is Haskins appeared to improve as the game went on. I think he needs more time.

This season is a success in comparison to what was expected, but I don't want the team to think that an 8-8 season is what they should shoot for. And they might not even reach that 8-8. I definitely agree with your point on the O-line. Hopefully the team strongly considers using its 1st rounder on an O-lineman.

Did you watch the first three quarters of the game? Haskins was flat out awful. It's not fair to blame moses for a handful of plays, when the quarterback did nothing for a third of the game and was handing the ball over to the other team consistently.
Yesterday was a perfect example of why he was benched. If I was a member of that defense, I'd be pissed today with the QB.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
The Washington defense was ordinary at best for the first 32 minutes of the game. Their special teams blew a critical xtra point. Washington played without any running game. Morgan Moses was gutsy to come out on the field for the last 3 plays, but the coaching staff shouldn't have let him, as he was destroyed by the defense - which basically ended a good drive that could have won the game against a 9-4 (now 10-4) team.

I did. I saw three or four dropped passes in the first half. I saw a long drive that the WFT converted into a FG before the half. Haskins was bad in the first quarter and very solid afterwards.
The defense gave up a long drive to start the second half. Being down 20-3 I assumed the game was over, but I was very pleased with how Haskins rallied the team. The drive that made the score 20-9 mostly took place in the 3rd quarter. IIRC that drive was 96 yards. No, TRW, you’re totally wrong about bad the first three quarters.
Facts. I dare you to dispute the truth.
Your opinion about Haskins has as much basis as mine, but TRY to see through the hate.
Hopkins missing the extra point really hurt, yet Haskins still kept the team moving in the 4th.

Winnable with Haskins playing both good and bad.
Smith is a 16 year pro who manages games but has been extremely fortunate to have stellar defense bail out some average play.
The single best thing would be for Haskins to have to play and for him to build on what he showed this game. The WFT is going to lose gimpy Smith sooner than later. Haskins needs to definitively pass or fail the next two games.
I feel about 55-45 that he’s good. The pace of the game being uptempo suits him. Now that he seems less reluctant to RUN instead of forcing the ball into tight windows I THINK he very possibly can become proficient.
He throws well when he’s locked in.

The defense, like almost every other game this season, kept the team in the game. NOT Haskins. That unit kept one of the best offensive units in the league to just 20 points, despite the quarterback throwing picks and 3-and-outs.
By the way, I don't hate Haskins. I gain absolutely nothing by hating him. On the contrary, I wish he was a good player, so that I could actually watch my favorite football team win and give me joy. But he sucks and his fanboys refuse to accept that. He's not worth investing in. There are 3-4 quarterbacks in the upcoming draft that are better than him now.
Oh and btw, Alex Smith (who I don't love by any stretch) beat an unbeaten team, without Gibson, on their homefield. Haskins has never come close to accomplishing anything like that.

I think Minshew is a good option actually. He was trying to play with a hand injury this season which didn't go well. Cheap contact.
He could be effective with a good team around him.

Re: The Washington Football Team Thread
The Seahawks have the worst pass defense in the league and Haskins looked bad against them. It’s time to cut losses and move on.
We need Alex back in the worst way if we want to secure the division.

He's signed through 2022, so I think we'd have to trade for him, and because he's signed so cheaply, we might have to give up something significant to get him.
Bizarre - Mychal Kendricks, the veteran LBer the Skins picked up is scheduled for sentencing on January 13th for insider trading on investments, and word is he'll likely get at least a year in jail. He's had a good career - an acl injury ruined his 2019 season.
https://www.fieldgulls.com/2020/10/7/21505762/sentencing-free-agent-lb-mychal-kendricks-postponed-again-seattle-seahawks-insider-trading-january I guess the NFL doesn't have any policy on suspending white collar criminals, or they just let the courts handle them.
