lol that "Jovan" guy is a Lakers guy now officially

Post#1 » by MarxyLebronist » Mon Dec 21, 2020 7:34 pm

I know that thread got locked up as it went off the rails, but the "It's a Business" mode of the league makes so many parts interchangeable and so many allegiances staged. The excuse for pay-to-play content originators is that they claim to be objective journalists and not tied to team narratives or positive hype. But of course, so many team media appendages are simply PR wings, whether officially on team payroll or not.

Jovan's big pre-season Clippers hit piece adds up pretty funny now, given that he was officially working to be on the Lakers beat/side. Wonder if he helped leak out this stupid Jerry West/recruiting story, too:

Could be the blowback was that he lost his sources on the Clippers, that nobody even wants to be seen talking to him.

This was clearly going to happen. They didn’t allow him to ask questions anymore at any media event and he kept writing negative pieces. There was no give and take at all

which explains why they moved him to the Lakers beat immediately without even having a replacement to announce

"Our new Clippers beat writer will be in place soon, to join continued coverage from our national NBA staff."

The “just leave” treatment lol

Liked his writing and think he really did enjoy covering the team but I hope he knows he can’t pull the same stuff with the Lakers

You'd think Ballmer would be mature enough to take some deserved criticism. Apparently not.

The constant pieces were probably at the limit so soon. I think the female trainer headline broke the back with being patient with his articles. Jovan wasn’t the only one bringing up issues but he was the main one being persistent about the issues

Good points--the female employees losing their dressing room to a spoiled [or at least overindulged] Kawhi may have crossed some imaginary but very real line. That was more than standard grousing and chemistry issues, and it was a detail that points directly at Ballmer and the org, not just the coach and the team, who are fair game.

That’s my problem with him. Reporting it back in January is fine. Sucks but at least it was a story at the time. I even get reporting it after the embarrassing collapse. What crosses the line is reporting it again the day training camp started. The team clearly trying to right wrongs and get off to a better start and he pulls that. Especially when it was likely he had accepted the Lakers job by then.

The guess around here is that the Clippers cut off Jovan's access as a RESULT of his reporting the inside dirt. Whether that came from the top [Ballmer], or up through the ranks [the staff, FO] or the players--or ALL THREE as an unspoken "word up" doesn't matter. This is how journalism works today--Truth is dead and if you tell it on the wrong people, so is your career, babe.

Jovan's lucky this is a 2-team town with the Lakers org just across the hall to welcome him over to job the Clippers. If this happens in any other NBA town, Jovan's sportswriting career is OVER before it ever starts.

Without access, he's just another opinionated shlub like you or me.

A snake.. Wouldn't be surprised if he was on Klutch's payroll. You write all that dirt at the time the team is trying to write their wrongs and you conveniently get a job with the rival Lakers just like that? Hummm

He'll write nothing but Laker love letters from here on out...watch

Yeah, that Jovan guy is a real ****. Never liked his dumb-ass attempts to spoil things and create drama and bring on negativity around our team... I never dropped him a follow on any of his social media. Glad to see him away from our Clippers. Good riddance.
With all due respect, he can go f himself.

Are people getting worked up about a nobody? So, the guy got a job covering a sports team and then moved to another one. Big deal. There are bloggers that cover sports every day. If it wasn't for people posting his tweets, i wouldn't even know who he was. Anyone can get a twitter account and start posting things. You get a few followers and somehow people think you are important.

I stopped watching ESPN, and listening to radio shows years ago. They are just paid to talk and spout nonsense to create reactions. Once blogging came along and anyone with a blog could appear to be an "expert" on anything, journalism went by the wayside.

I can get just as much, if not more, insight from people on these boards. At least here, I know people have a vested interest in this team. Sure, we have differences of opinion on what is wrong and what needs corrected, but we all still come here. Those differences are no different than any other sports fans.

Yeah, getting upset about this is a little weird. He's a beat reporter for a sports team. The fact that he kept reporting negative stories is one thing--and it is what it is. He's a reporter. That they were pretty much the same stories is a little more puzzling. Sounds like his "sources" turned on him and dried up--and that's a death sentence for any reporter on any beat in any city.

I agree with clipperlover about the loss of most good sports reporting--there are still a few reporters out there, but they're few and far between. Sensationalism sells, and it's not sexy or interesting to say "Reggie Jackson is a decent quality ballhandler, but would benefit from smarter playcalling and thinking about himself less as a producer and more as a facilitator." It's easier and more dramatic to shout "He sucks! Why are we playing this guy!?"

I don't know any other media guy besides Woj and Shams because of their news reporting. Maybe it's just me from another part of the world but why do we even have a thread about media members? Such a weak look for us.

things happen, they get reported. can't fight the truth. is it obnoxious when the same stuff gets rehashed? sometimes. but the way i see it, it was a recap of the things that happened the last season to show a contrast for this coming one.

idk, guess i'm just saying it's not at all impactful and we should just move on. i agree with diehardfan. when you start complaining about biased media you go down this rabbit hole where everyone's out to get your favorite team. and it becomes not at all enjoyable to talk to people who are media-paranoid.

there's a reason they call the sports page the Toy Department
Jovan broke the rules and did some actual reporting

the mistake he made was telling the truth about the people STILL HERE
he can savage Doc all he wants and probably get the best seat on the Clippers plane
