Would Chicago be willing to part with Wendell Carter? I know the Mavs had interest in him in the draft and he’s not a complete sieve on defense.

Throwing a huge deal to Issac and scaring ORL off a match is the move I would make. Its risky, especially with KP, but the payoff of a Luka / Issac / KP trio could be special long term. Those are two ideal running mates to Doncic IMO.

I find it odd that KP gets bagged on because of his injury history but then those same people want Isaac who has played less than KP over the last full season.

What about J Grant .. ?? .. does not fit, with a team under construction ..
Johnson / Green for Grant + 2Ronda ..
Detroit gets a prospect, who fits the young core. And an expiring veteran who might get something of value
The Mavs get an update on 4
They surround Luka / KP with solid 3D players.
KP / Powell
Grant / Maxi
Dfs / TH
JRich / Burke
Luka / Brunson
Johnson / Green for Grant + 2Ronda ..

Isaac off the table in free agency. John Collins and Lauri Markkanen are the two best young power forwards in 2021 free agency.

Detroit literally just went out of their way to give Grant that contract. I dont think the buyers remorse will kick in until about midway through 2021/22 season.
I dont love the Lauri fit once you take the money demand into account. I view him as a low tier #3, with KP as a high tier #3 or low tier #2. They seem redundant, and the up/down play that Lauri brings is pretty annoying.
Collins is good enough that you overlook the potential overlap on offense b/t him and KP, but I dont think he gets away from ATL. Paying all that money to their 2020 FA crop only to let a true blue chip walk would be so foolish.
Right now I think some under the radar guys for DAL are Ball, Zach Collins, Gary Trent Jr, etc. The best move for them may be to load up on tradable youngsters on 15M AV or less type contracts. Get guys that fit, but also guys that can be combined together with picks for a disgruntled star should one arise. Its looking unlikely that the long term running mate to Luka will be available on the market this upcoming summer.

Combine this with the use it or lose it nature of their cap space and their lack of trade assets, and Dallas effectively needs Luka to be Dirk 2.0 in his ability to lead a contender without a 2nd star. It can be done, but its asking a lot considering Harden and Dame have been really good in this conference a long time and their teams have struggled to break through. No Warriors/Lebron level teams should help in a few years, but this is asking a lot of Luka in the superteam era.

The Mavs will be able to add talent through trade like they always have. No need to solely focus on free agency.

After all these extensions, It looks like the Thunder, Knicks, Mavericks, and Bulls will be driving the free agent market next season.

The good thing with fighting the bulls and knicks is that its a character test. Lower offer then theirs, abd not choosing mavs, means u sgouldnt want them on a winning team anyway. Few teams with cap now, just dont overpay and give moveable deals to good young players, and renew thj richardson

raptors still have max space if powell (as expected) opts out. I think mavs will throw collins a max offer now

I dont really think this is accurate. All Dallas needs to do is not hand out contracts that go longer than the Zinger deal. Target another run for a big fish in 2024. At that point Luka will still only be like 24.
In the meantime maybe go after Lowry on a 3 year stint and hope Richardson takes a 3 year reup.
Its nowhere near panic time for Dallas. Luka is a baby. By age 24 he likely will be more attractive for a star wanting to find a home.

Presti is playing the long game. I dont think they are a threat to sign any top tier talent. They likely use space to gain more assets IMO. In like 3 years they could be a offseason player. No need to rush it, they are in a tremendous position.

Hence me mentioning the asset problem. Can't trade for a star with no assets. They can certainly upgrade their rotation by eating money, but no 2nd star.

I'm not that patient. Not to wait 4 years. No no no. And the Mavs shouldn't be either. Luka might sign a 4+1, but he might opt for something shorter to max his leverage.
The situation isn't dire and they don't need to panic, but if we are realistic the only path to a 2nd star for Dallas right now appears to be KP growing into it. Or I guess jay's guy Dipo re-finding his form of 2 years ago and choosing Dallas which feels like a very unlikely combo.
So yeah they need Luka to be able to do it with a team of plus role players(assuming Dallas can piece that together, its not in place yet).

Eh, people always become available that you don't expect. Who thought Porzingis was available until the Woj Bomb? Similar options with hopefully better results will present themselves.

Mavs fans are lucky af. Bulls lost their superstar in Lauri and looks like he will bolt for his love Luka to form a Euro only superteam where Doncic is Lebron, KP is Wade, and Lauri is Bosh. No team is stopping 3 huge monsters that could put up 150 points a night.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Yes Zach and Pwill only untouchable. You can have Carter and Lauri for nearly free. Probably this yrs 18 finalize it.
Stupid FO is going gar pax 2.0 losing all their prime assets to become another teams star. Man only if i was the GM.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.
