GT #1: Bullets @ 76ers 7 PM (NBCSW/1500 AM)

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:27 am

YOUR Washington Bullets start their 2020-21 campaign in the city of brotherly love and cheesesteaks!

It's also the birthday of yours truly.

No Rui for 3 weeks! but we will see if Deni Avdija can bring that shooting to the regular season. Westbrook makes his official debut. A lot of points are in the cards... but can they slow down Embiid? Can they rebound? Can the shooters the 76ers acquire be cold?

Let us see!

Also, let's get ourselves in the mood

Why you gotta do Bonga dirty like that? He's not even on the 2nd unit?

That starting lineup is in need of a low usage 3nD guy

Yeah. That second team is brutal. Not sure that Scottie won’t trot it out though.

It would sure look better with Matthews and Bonga.

Neto
Matthews
Bonga
Bertans
Lopez

That group would be better on the offensive and defensive ends.

Of course, if there’s any adjustment, Brooks would probably put in Robinson ... because Scottie

I'm hoping for:

Starters: Westbrook, Beal, Avdija, Bonga, Bryant
Bench: Neto, Robinson, Brown, Bertans, Lopez

With Brown hopefully taking some of those Robinson minutes at SG in addition to his duties at SF.

I'd love to see Mathews in place of Robinson, but I don't expect Mathews to even be in uniform. He's a 2-way player and can only spend 45 days with the team. We probably won't see him suit up unless we have some injuries in the backcourt.

Just because he is paid more doesn't mean his role should expand. 30 mpg off the bench and a green light to shoot from anywhere within half-court.

There's no way we can trot out the 2nd team/bench as a unit. It would be absurdly bad. I'm not even sure what the 2nd unit would be able to do well. They're not a defensive team, or a half court team, or a 3pt shooting team, or ??. Its just a mishmash of players. I guess the only way it works is if the 2nd unit players are mixed in with the starters. Maybe have, at most, 2 bench players on the court at the same time.

Brooks will put together the worst possible lineups you can imagine, I promise. This is what I expect:

Westbrook-Beal-Bonga-Bertans-Bryant

Ish-Neto-Brown-Avdija-Lopez

It's a shame we won't be able to see our true starting unit with Hachimura out.

I expect Brooks to start Wagner at PF.

That rule changed for this season: they "may be active for up to 50 games with their NBA team".

I like your rotation. Anyway, I bet at one point we'll see a Westbrook/Neto/Smith/Brown/Lopez-lineup on the court. :D

Brooks loves his microwave instant offense shot creator 2 guard off the bench type. For this reason, Robinson will play 20 minutes. No chance he plays Neto over Smith, most likely we’ll see a horrific 3 point guard lineup to pay homage to his OKC Derrick Fisher, Reggie Jackson, Russell Westbrook lineups, which were awful. Don’t be surprised to see Wagner at the 4.

I’m sure in his mind, this is Westbrook and Beals team!!! If any young players make one mistake, they are sabotaging that!!! And all of them must sit so that the vets can play the *right* way.

Some bonus lineups will feature:
Bertans at the 3 with Wagner at the 4!!!
Westbrook &Ish dynamic duo (because they are friends)

That's great news! 50 games is a heck of a lot more than 45 days (which actually amounted to maybe 20 games). Effectively, the 2-way slot is like a 16th and 17th active roster spot.

Predictions:
- This will be Westbrook's 1st triple dub for the Wiz.
- Bryant will not get a technical foul.
- Lopez will get more playing time than Brown.
- 5 3's for Bertans.
- Beal will shoot under 40%.
