Steph Curry is the basketball equivalent of a system QB

Post#1 » by draftnightsuit » Wed Dec 23, 2020 2:22 am

He’s the NBA version of Nick Foles (except Foles actually won a Super Bowl MVP).

He only works in an offense that is built around maximizing his strengths and covering his weaknesses, while being surrounded by weapons. He can look like a superstar when in the right situation but crumbles as the 1st option.

He’s the GOAT shooter but he doesn’t make plays, can’t carry a team and doesn’t make anyone better.

He’s going to have a long season ahead of him.

You're RealGM's version of Nick Foles. Somebody bench the OP for Mitch Trubisky.

This. He’s not going to score only 20 points on 20 shots all season.

Steph is still a great player and was historically great just a few seasons ago. This is just one game. He may be on the decline though

Curry isn't close to as good as he used to be. And that's okay. Not every player extends their peak well past 30. Curry's had injuries and it's going to be very, very tough to get back to close to what he was at this age given his lack of athleticism and length. Isiah Thomas wasn't very good by age 30.

Doesn't mean he wasn't a great player in his prime.

I just noticed that the OP compared Steph to Nick freaking Foles...

Steph will be in the HOF when his career is over. Foles, not so much.

The Warriors just aren't a very good team right now - especially with Klay and Dray out.

Steph is still a good player. The problem with asking him to carry a bad team is that he's a small guard who's past 30 - very few small guards were able to drag bad teams to the playoffs.

The team was garbage tonight, he has little to work with right now.

Please explain the 2013 and 2014 seasons?
Mark Jackson who can't even get another coaching job
David Lee as the 2nd best player.
2013 gets the warriors to 6 games in the 2nd round against the spurs!
2014 51 wins, lost on final possession on the 7th game against lob city clips.

Like others have said... It was one game, the second and third best players on the Warriors are hurt and Steph himself was coming off a long layoff (from the most devastating hand injury of all time)...

Outside of Curry and (probably) Draymond and (maybe?) Oubre the Warriors aren't very good. We'll reach a point sooner rather than later where Curry himself will realize this and attempt to put up absurd scoring numbers night in and night out to get his team the W.

When that point comes, then we'll have a better idea of what kind of load current day Curry is capable of shouldering. That does nothing to discredit what he did in the past though, first as the lead option on the Warriors and then as Durant's Robin / the beta to Durant's Alpha.

Terrible comparison but Curry fans have more excuses for his poor performances, fake injuries (playoffs), extended injuries (when people wanted to see if he could carry a poor team like Lebron, Harden etc have) and all the reasons under the sun for his failings at times.

Lebron stans are one thing but it's weighed out by Lebron haters, I swear Curry has more fans making excuses for him than any player of all time.
