Re: GT: Knicks vs. Pacers 12/23 7 P.M. Game 1 of the Dynastic Build
There have been show starters before in the NBA too. Elfrid could start every game and if (a) Quickley plays major minutes; (b) does well or reasonably well, even if it's not Cavs games well; AND (c) the team is doing okay, then all good.
Starting is overrated. I have always thought highly of Thibs and I'm not going to freak out because Quick and Mitch sit. In fact, I do think them both starting is kind of nerve wracking. It's cool but it could also be too much and backfire.
I'm talking myself out of it lol.

Finally on this same subject, probably the best way to read Thibs' quote is that Quickley can earn his playing time, but doesn't mean he's starting out of the gate. Meh.
Mitch is more of a concern but with him you have real reasons not to -- like fouls. Elf is replaceable obviously, he's kind of terrible, but then again Quick is a late first rookie.

Still, I hate watching the Knicks when the peanut gallery is non Knick fans.
Let me have my pain in peace!
this is a pet peeve of mine too. especially when family members, who i know don't watch ever, start telling me what's wrong with the knicks. my greater pet peeve is that, in general, people will give you an opinion on anything no matter how uniformed they are on it. you ask them how to solve world hunger and they will tell you. like "motherf*cker you can't solve that sh*t, you've been paying off a student loan for 20 years and aint never paid more than the interest, how the f*ck you gonna fix that sh*t ?"
The Knicks are always an embarrassing subject with family. 1) For obvious reasons. 2) People don't know what's going on.

Payton suck KG. We dont owe Payton nothing. Its not like Randle who actually has skill and gets paid a lot so we must be professional with him. Payton is a stop gap and he knows it. No attachment to Payton plus he makes us worse.

Attention is on Quick here, but I'm just as interested to see Knox.

I agree, I don't like him at all and can't imagine any scenario where he's retained and helps the team. But it's more about the fact that Quickley just played well in a shortened preseason and is a rookie. You don't have to rush him out there. It's not do or die. If he does, great. But I'm saying this is in a normal purview of a good coach. I'm whatever about Quickley starting. More concerned about Mitch.
Most concerned about just people playing well. This is more of a headline here than I think it is something that really matters a lot.
Now if Quickley plays very little and Elfrid and Randle are out there, I'll say Thibs is a moron. I call balls and strikes really. I don't care about defending this or that just for the sake of it -- but I just don't think Quickley being put out there as a starter in Game 1 is much of anything. You may want to reduce his nerves a little and for that reason alone, it's fine to bring him in slowly ... even just to ease him in a little ... not because Elfrid is good lol.

Re: GT: Knicks vs. Pacers 12/23 7 P.M. Game 1 of the Dynastic Build
There is an outcome where Thibs starts Elf and Randle and the team gets demoralized and goes back into the gutter.
Possible.
But I don't really think it's that big a deal because I think Thibs is in the process of doing work here.
But we'll see. A few nights ago I thought it'd be all kinds of crazy to keep playing Elf as a starter. But with nerves and overdoing it, I think it's reasonable to pull back. A girl has a right to change her mind.

i think mitch starts, iq comes off the bench but plays a lot of minutes.
berman mentioned that thibs wants a 10 man rotation.
c - robinson
pf - randle
sf - rj
sg - burks
pg - payton
--------
c - noel
pf - toppin
sf - knox
sg - bullock
pg - quickly
it's going to be real interesting who loses playing time when rivers is back, a part of me knows quickly was never considered to be in the rotation this season so it'll be his minutes that get affected.

Rivers ain't playing anytime soon. He'll play the role of Courtney Lee and come in as needed. Rivers is getting paid well, no worries.

Re: GT: Knicks vs. Pacers 12/23 7 P.M. Game 1 of the Dynastic Build
None of this is to defend Elf. If he starts, I think it will go badly. But I'm not at all worried about Elf. I'm worried about trying to overdo stuff with young players. I'd rather Elf not play at all and Frank start, but that's not happening.
I'm okay being down 23-15 when Quick comes in. Whatever. If that protects Quick a little and gives him something to strive for, it's fine. Who cares about the score when he comes in. Overdoing it with young players is a real concern of mine.

The Rotoworld thing where they said Quickley may not make the rotation was funny.

Mitch fans really want to see DSJ or Frank struggling to throw him lobs and making him look terrible by having no clue what to do with an offense? Payton is not ideal but at least he can get players set up until Rivers comes back.

the only thing frank has over dsj other than defense is that he doesn't look like toxic energy.
you take a look at dsj and you know nobody seeks out to hang with his dead eyes looking always pouting ass.

I'm saying I get wanting Quickley to start, but we still need Payton as a backup for now. Unless yall want to see more of DSJ turning the ball over almost every time down the court with Obi and Mitch standing around trying to figure out wtf they are supposed to do.

Re: GT: Knicks vs. Pacers 12/23 7 P.M. Game 1 of the Dynastic Build
I suspect that Obi may not show out as much as some hope he would and my impression is that his role in college is very different than the role he will need to play in the NBA at least at first. He was playing center and had some physical advantage over his opponents but in the NBA he will have to alter his game to succeed.
It's going to take awhile for him to transition from someone used to being in virtually every p&r to someone who will be a cut and spot player. He has the skills and BBIQ to do it but it's going to take some time before he feels completely comfortable doing it and can maximize his ability in it.
So I hope that fans will be patient with him because he's not going to be consistently as productive in his role as we may hope. Sure we will have IQ to distract us from this but the idea that Obi is the most NBA ready and likely to win ROY was a bunch of pundits using some circumstantial formula to suggest this.
We can hope that eventually he expands his game in the NBA but I think as a rookie he may be best served running the floor, cutting to the basket, making the extra pass and shooting the 3ball with confidence. I guess he can try to exploit back ups in the post from time to time but I don't see him being able to do it consistently against the types of starting 4s in the NBA just yet.
Yea, Quickley starting off strong will probably stave off the fan angst of Obi struggling to find his way early on. He wasn't my choice at 8 especially with who else was there to take but I am reasonable enough to give him the chance to adjust and grow as a player to have a chance to succeed.
I'm not sure the rest of the fan base will be though, again, let's hope Quick can distract from it. Hah

The DSJ vs Frank war is over my friend. We’ve moved on and we rather see Quickley play over them.
