I am a bit curious to see how the Capela and Collins duo will work defensively in the playoffs because neither of them is elite at guarding out on the perimeter. It’s not a concern right now, but it is something to note when the next step in this team’s process is advancing in the playoffs because I foresee it becoming an issue in the future...
Fernando got worked in the paint by Nikola Vucevic. It was not a pretty showing for Fernando, as he still looks unsure of where he’s supposed to be and what he’s supposed to do defensively. With Onyeka Okongwu out as he heals from inflammation in his foot, Fernando received the backup center minutes behind Capela.
My thoughts on the center position are as follows: If Capela gets hurt and misses significant time this season, there’s a chance that spot could be a clear negative. I’m hesitant to have a strong belief in a rookie center coming in and being positive defensively, even though Okongwu is going to be a good defender eventually, and Fernando has a long way to go in becoming a reliable player. It’s possible we’ll still see a lot of small-ball five minutes from Collins this season because the depth behind Capela is questionable.
Think I agree with this, and I've not always been one to agree with Kirschner.
The kind of guy I wish we could add, but we just don't have a roster spot for is John Henson.
